I had a situation on my gitea instance where someone was sending so many requests it caused significant lag. It was a low spec VPS so it wasn't very hard to do, but still. Turns out it was someone with some LLM user agent so I added a fail2ban rule for it. I wouldn't even have cared if they were more responsible, and spammed less. I can imagine it's a big problem for more serious git instances, since more people will target it. I bet GitHub get hammered pretty hard by it too.
