How are people getting entry level tech jobs in this economy? I graduated in December, I've applied to about 300 jobs, and I had three interviews for what seem to be ghost jobs. Should I just give up?

>>109565412this world is all about who you know, and if you don't know anyone, it's about who you blow. Ya need this thing called "friends". I know its a foreign concept to your generation. But you must also "get along with others". I know it's icky but I believe in you.
>>109565605I have friends, they can't get me anything. My only friends with jobs got their foot in the door from family connections.
>>109565627then you need new friends, your value is determined by your friend group, if you look at the job application, there is 1 particular section I want to draw your attention to, it is the single most important part of ANY application. Everything else is bullshit. You could be convicted of raping an infant and never touched a PC in your life and be totally retarded land a job with this 1 location on your application, are you ready? "Personal references" Learn to make friends with better people. If the person is liked enough, and they say something nice about you, you got the job. Everything else is gravy.

>300 jobs in eight months
>>109565817We need to take a step back and think about how ridiculous this is.>YOU NEED TO APPLY TO 50 JOBS A DAY BROHow about no?
>>109565832you need to set up a clanker that applies to 300 jobs a day for youthis is an entry level skill now
>>109565412There is no free lunch. Use AI to start a business. Don't expect a handout in the form of employment: that mode of participating in the economy is over.
>>109565839Yeah man I'm going to pay for a subscription so I can have a bot apply to jobs for me and make shit up on my resume. This is totally normal. Society is definitely not falling apart.
>>109565854believe it or not this is the most meritocratic the system has ever been
>>109565852Yeah if there's anything the world needs it's another fucking to-do app
>>109565857Give me a fucking break I know Indian drooling idiots that got jobs. Meritocracy is a myth used to justify the dispossession of the populace.

>>109565960>bootcamplmao at you if you think this is a thing any morethe only bootcamp you're being sent to one where clankers stomp on you till you're dead
>>109565977there's bootcamps that guarantee job placement with a refundpretty sure 100% of those jobs end up in lay-offs

>>109565412>I graduated in DecemberI recently started a degree in web systems "development".Just because, and I have several brainless peers saying, "lol, getting a degree is a waste of time; the only thing it's good for is emigrating."Yes and no, here’s the thing: getting a degree is useless if you don't actually learn anything. And when you graduate, if you don't have a specialization, you're screwed, whether it's web dev, DevOps, cybersecurity, data science, or computer systems. Being just a generic "SWE" means nothing; you have to specialize.
>>109566077>I recently started a degree in web systems "development".genuinely, are you retarded?
>>109566116Is it a bad idea?
>>109566138yes or no question: have you spent any money on an ai sub and spent time with the clankers?
>>109566180>have you spent any money on an ai sub and spent time with the clankers?I have ChatGPT Pro, but my actual degree is free. I was thinking about getting into web development, mostly to see how I stack up against others and to compare code and projects (since the program is project-based). My main degree is in CS, and I have two years left, so I was considering:deciding which area to specialize in, or else doing web dev for the first few years to make money while I figure out my long-term path
>>109566262Stay out of web dev, that's the one area AI will replace. It's not good code but the apps aren't big enough to care about the tech debt.
>>109565412 You go work a s***** job that's unrelated to your actual career that you wanted or you went to school for and in the meantime you mingle with other people and go to clubs and go to social gatherings and all this stuff and then you meet people that are in the career that you want and then you slowly slowly befriend them and then you get them to hire you and you leave your miserable job after 4 5 years
>>109566300Tell that to my classmates; they all say, "A degree is useless, with 'vibe coding' and bootcamps, I have everything I need."I don't think I'll pursue web development; I'm mostly just exploring it out of curiosity.
>>109565757that can help but if you are a stinky friendless butthole, nobody will wanna do business with you.>become friendly>make rich friends>get rich
Jobs? No such thing anymore.
>>109565412Are you willing to work in an office, not WFH? Are you willing to work somewhere untrendy? I'm guessing not.
>>109567110Yes and yes. Obviously lmao
>>109565412giving up is not an option. it is extremely difficult for anyone at any level to get a tech job. I assume you are young and a new-grad. Your best option is to start looking nationwide with willingness to relocate. even if the job is in Alaska, take it. I know that sucks. good luck anon.
>>109565857obvious lie. let me guess, you aren't a straight white guy born in USA.
>>109567265I've already been applying to jobs anywhere anon
>>109565412They aren't unless they know someone who is already inside the company.

>>109565412been 2 years since grad and i hardly ever tried. i do kernel/compiler development so cant seriously apply for web shit. idk what im doing with my life but currently working at mcdonalds and hoping to eventually live in a van with as little expenses as possible. only interview i've ever had was apple in silicon valley. worst of all, im canadian. idk man fuck everything
>>109567265>it is extremely difficult for anyone at any level to get a tech jobi think that means giving up is, in fact, an optionhowever you will have to suffer through a shit life that isn't worth living in career unrelated to your interests along with the majority of working adults
I am late career by now but I had a rough start so I know what it's like, my best advice for early career aside from having projects or experience that show you're good at the tech side, also use them to show you're good at some of the processes that surround a tech role - project management, working directly with a customer/stakeholder/manager in some organization to help them solve a problem, marketing a solution and gaining some type of adoption, etc.Unfortunately if you came to this career because it seemed comfy, you thought you would only have to do programming or sysadmin stuff, or you thought you could find work where you rarely ever have to talk to people, I'm not saying those jobs don't exist. But if you are struggling to find work and have little to no experience, being flexible and a jack of all trades can really set you apart. This is pretty much the way I got my first tech job
