Why has development of cameras stopped? They are selling the exact same sensors and optics for the last 10+ years now.
>>

Ten years ago the Sony A7RII had a 42 MP sensor. The current A7RVI has a 68 MP sensor with significantly improved everything else.
Your premise is false and you're retarded.
>>
>>109565736
Nobody can afford that "flagship" shit and there is no zoom.

>Nobody can afford that "flagship" shit and there is no zoom.
The A7R isn't even the flagship. Sony's website lists 28 compatible zoom lenses for full frame E-Mount. There are many more if you go third party.

I want a regular camera, not a 5 kg setup for 10000 Dollars.
>>
>>109566083
ok get a phone
or a point and shoot
or a few years old body model for only $1,000
or a camera thats not full frame with kit lens for $600
>>
>>109566252
You see my problem? Everything outside of ultra expensive "pro market" stands in place for over a decade.
>>
>>>/p/ is that way (and remember to stick to the dedicated gear thread)
>>
>>109566276
No I don't, phone cameras today and even normal cameras are better than 10 year old models. Theres a camera available at every price point and quality level you want
>>
>>109566320
Every normal phone literally outputs 12Mpx images and lies about having tens of megapixels. It's ogre.
>>
>>109566276
There's more to a camera than the sensor. Also, why are you so concerned about this? Go take photos and stop obsessing over gear. Your gear doesn't matter (until it does).

they still do but not for the consumer market.

wdym, IMAX cameras have gotten so good you can record entire movies in them now. They used to be so loud and expensive it was impossible beyond a few minutes
>>
Alternate view, not one single person on planet earth could tell the difference between a photo taken on a camera 10 years ago vs one released today.
In that sense yes camera evolution has ended.
But honestly the real reason is people went from viewing images on large computer screens to using tiny mobile phone screens, there is zero reason to improve cameras in this new world as humans have been proven not to care, Instagram outperforms Flickr a billion to one proving nobody wants high res images.

>Why has development of cameras stopped?
it hasn't. between Sony, Canon, and Nikon, there's 3-4 new bodies every year

>They are selling the exact same sensors
a 20MP sensor from 2016 is still great. that's also ignoring advancements in autofocus, "AI" integration, and refinements made to the sensor

>and optics for the last 10+ years now
that's like saying tires haven't changed in 10+ years. tires that were good 10 years ago are still good today (design-wise). there are still advancements made, such as auto focus motors, lighter, and customizable buttons

>>109566083
there are plenty of options under $10,000. you can get a Canon R50 with kit lens for under $1000 brand new, and that will shit on any smartphone (if we ignore that fact smartphones stack images and use AI bullshit to make it look "better")

>Why has development of cameras stopped?
I've got a Panasonic GH5S which was released in 2018; and its video recording still looks incredible in 2026. I guess the problem is diminishing returns where how much more can you REALLY improve photo and video capabilities? It would be in tiny increments that barely anyone can notice. The same thing is happening with phones where you can't even tell if a photo or video was taken on a 2021 or a 2026 model iPhone at this point.
>>
seems to be that cameras have developed but 10 years ago was already great enough for 99% of people, and maybe even 90% of amateur photographers

isn't that's good? pro cameras are fucking expensive
>>
>>109566699
It's not that they were expensive to run, it was that they were almost completely impractical for narrative film because of their ergonomics and they would make so much noise that you'd have to re-record all the dialogue in ADR. A documentary like Baraka could "easily" be filmed with an IMAX camera because it is only really about captivating images, not acting performances or a narrative.
>>
>>109566320
AI hallucination is not better.
>>
>>109567932
I found this out the hard way taking pics of zoomed in signs and text and seeing nothing but AI made up gibberish text and diagrams in the images
>>
>>109565676
People aren't buying cameras specifically, the investment has shrunk drastically and the cost of a new breakthrough is getting higher - the easy discoveries have already been made.
>>
>>109566276
So you're some retard boomer who wants a bridge camera?
>>
>>109568601
I don't want to pay thousands of Dollars for minor improvements.
>>
even if we increase sensor resolution, sharpness won't improve much because of diffraction
as far as optics go, I think antireflective coating has improved in recent years
if you ask me though, we should go back to using CCD sensors and shitty lenses with bad antireflective coating
lens flares and CCD streaks are sovl
>>

>Go take photos and stop obsessing over gear
He won't, like 99.9% of faggots from /p/.
>>
Most of the upgrades now are just things that could be firmware patched in
Oh and selling subscriptions for the software to use it as a webcam, which used to be free
>>
>>109565676
They aren't. the Starvis 2 system and basically same class sensors are essentially mild night vision.

the top of the line cameras frome each of the three major companies (panasonic isn't a major one) have ai autofocus, with different capabilities.

canon's most advanced can track a basketball and determine which person has the ball, pick their face, and focus on the face, getting both eyes in focus.
