Artists are unironically way more in demand than coders right now. Artchads won. Codemonkeys are on suicide watch.

Tech is in a far worse position. Thanks to LLMs literally any clueless midwit can larp as a senior dev and spam AI-generated code to add some shitty feature or "fix" a bug in a FOSS repo. That’s literally what’s happening right now: every OSS project on Github is getting buried under a mountain of slop PRs that look pretty fine at first glance, but are absolute garbage underneath. Actual useful PRs just drown in this ocean of mediocrity because maintainers can't easily tell the difference anymore. Good luck getting your PR reviewed or merged now in any OSS project, made with AI, vibecoded or not.

In 2D/3D you literally cannot fake competence. A handcrafted, properly textured PBR Tux model for SuperTuxKart or a 2d art for a splash screen for Krita is more in demand by open source projects than some random 1000-line shitty AI jeetcode commit adding a useless feature nobody asked for. Plus artists successfully pulled off the greatest psyop in history by manipulating normies to have a literally gag-reflex hatred for AI art, while vibe-coded slop in software engineering is already fully normalized and accepted with zero pushback.

Of course I'm not talking about tranny r*ddit furry porn "artists". I mean actual 2D/3D artists with real industry experience and fundamentals compared to devs with equivalent backgrounds. And the devs are losing hard.

It's wild to think that just 5-10 years ago it was the exact opposite and 2d/3d artist was associated with being an unemployed neet, while software engineering juniors were getting swept up by startups after watching a 2-month web dev bootcamp series by some jeet.

How do programmers even recover from this?

You will never be a real programmer. You have no skill, you have no knowledge, you have no ambition. You are an untalented loser twisted by prompts and chatbots into a crude mockery of an engineer.
All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your “impressive” projects behind closed doors.
Programmers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed coders to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even vibecoders who “pass” write uncanny and unnatural code. Your project architecture is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get your PR accepted by a project, they’ll turn tail and bolt the second they gets a whiff of your long, em dashes in comments.
You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear – you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your failures, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a vibecoder is buried there. Your codebase will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a git history that is unmistakably slop.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

I think you are overestimating the amount of psyoping that artists needed to do. The average normie that voices their opinion had the AI gag reflex from day 1 just by you telling them X picture was AI generated. There is a reason why if you ask every post scarcity accelerationist singularity futurist "If AI and robots do all the jobs, what do humans do?" they will reply to you with either humand doing art or they are some degenerate freak that will argue human extinction and death of all life is actually good because computers can calculate faster then brains or something.

When was this ever not the case? Are you 12 years old?
>>
>>109567651
If that was the case then there wouldnt be so many indie developers making 3D games that have 99% of failiure rate. They would have better odds of just making it in the industry.

God had no hand in this. God rejected this creation and sent it right to the devil, and the devil looked at it and said - "This is disgusting".

>In 2D/3D you literally cannot fake competence.
Good thing "competence" is hardly relevant for professional design work (just as for professional coding). AI can shit out as many corporate designs in a day as would have kept a vector shitter gainfully employed for a year.
>A handcrafted, properly textured PBR Tux model for SuperTuxKart or a 2d art for a splash screen for Krita
Any high calibre tasks that still call for human craftsmanship will funnel to the top dudes, not you. Just like with coding. The rest of the mundane shit that makes up 90% of design and 3D art will go to LLMs. There's no need for middling slackers anymore.

Not a coder btw. My industry is AI-proof.
>>
>>109568626
>Good thing "competence" is hardly relevant for professional design work (just as for professional coding). AI can shit out as many corporate designs in a day as would have kept a vector shitter gainfully employed for a year.

AI is really bad at faking those kinds of things the industry actually needs. For example, even to create 3d art for a trashy chingchong game like Genshin Impact, you need an army of 3D and 2D artists, and it's simply impossible to fake the ability to draw art like that.

The software engineering industry is full of people who use AI to fake their portfolios, skills and knowledge, fake their work experience, use AI during job interviews, and so on. There are plenty of stories about people who landed middle and senior software developer positions at large companies with zero work experience simply by faking their work history, lying on their resumes, and using cheating tactics during interviews (such as using AI during live coding, algorithmic sections and theoretical questions).

Artists, on the other hand, cannot fake their portfolios, because AI (at least for now) hasn’t yet reached a level where its 3D work is indistinguishable from that of a real artist (and maybe never will, who knows). You’ll need to attach actual examples of your work in your portfolio, which will be used to evaluate you. There are no 3-5 rounds of interviews, theoretical questions, LeetCode problems or live coding sessions like in the software engineering industry. In artist industry at most you’ll be given a take-home test assignment that you can complete over a couple of days in your own time.

So how come programmers don't resist automation of their "art"? Because in actual art human element is important, people would rather have human-made art than mass-produced one. Meanwhile in programming even experienced programmers don't bully anybody for using AI.
>>
>>109572064
Programming is gray area between art and engineering. Game design or UI in particular lean heavily toward being art.
As a programmer and artist I am a little less picky about AI in code than in music or visuals, but still prefer human-made content. It's interesting and sometimes awe-inspiring to see what people could produce using their mind's capacity, and it's a pity that artificial intelligence can be used to fake human intelligence now.

Diffusion generation is significantly better at making photorealistic images then it is at making artistic styles of almost any kind, or just making coherent images with lot of specified non-generic elements.
