Russia has public schools with advanced studies in math, physics, and programming. The education in these schools is pretty decent even by western standards.The thing is, a bunch of math/programming/physics olympiad kids doesn't globally affect the country at all. It's literally a drop of honey in an ocean of shit, if you will. With proper management you can achieve much greater success even with mediocre people, while with bad management even a team of geniuses will achieve roughly nothing.And yeah - olympiads are just puzzle problems for schoolkids. Olympaids allow to select potential future scientists with some degree of success, but nothing more. Most olympiad kids in russia quit doing olympiads right after high school, and already in uni they just go write CRUD backends in Java/Go for $2k/month. Which people with way lower intellectual abilities can do, especially in the age of AI.Most of my friends and acquaintances who were olympiad kids in school or successfully competed in ICPC contests in university left russia at the very first opportunity. Now they work in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, and the UAE, but not in Russia. And there are other examples among my acquaintances who were olympiads. I knew a girl (pretty attractive) who repeatedly won math olympiads. Unfortunately, she committed suicide when she was only 23, literally the year after she graduated from university.
