>AIshitters horn in with tons of new games, etc.
>i-i made this
I suspect more people are vibing C64 software than admit, too. Which is a shame because it's never been easier or more fun to actually program using BASIC or assy.
>>
>>109576341
kinda makes sense one way, maybe with AI you can find ways to make more crazy shit with small file sizes
but on the other hand the whole demoscene is like an artisanal thing, the point is seeing what people come up with, how creative they are
>>
>>109576461
C64 is simple enough to understand, that's the nice thing about it. C64+1541 is all you need, really. I submit that an 8-bit prototype for nearly every kind of game exists and many were quite good and by the same developers. If you can't get an idea for a game onto the C64 there is a big chance it's too complicated or you're doing it wrong. I had an idea for a game (roguelike fishing game) that I was tinkering with for a while with Smalltalk and a few other things just to learn, but it dawned on me - C64 is the perfect platform for this kind of thing. Object based inheritance of fishes and all kinds of shit like that? Baits? No. Just have a bitfield and masks. There goes millions of operations right there.

Maybe that's what's so terribly wrong with nu-games. They assume infinite resources, graphics and sound potential, and so just getting such a beast off the ground isn't even possible without a pre-existing engine and tech infrastructure and supporting programs and even companies.

Why not just think really hard about your game idea and throw away all the garbage bits and simplify everything until you can make it run on the C64, maybe even partly in BASIC for the ease of your peers?

I played some dude's PETSCII beat 'em up, kinda Rastan like, but the characters and monsters were HUGE about 1/3rd the screen height, it was so fucking based. It's a new game and it was bitchin. It was not vibe coded I don't think, the same dev has been making monster-fight and dungeon PETSCII games for a long time. Way before AI hit.

two worst ones in my eyes, nothing wrong with ai but if you are going to (literally) pollute internet communities with low-quality garbage, at least tag shit properly and do not replace your brain with the AI

The demos made using AI, at least the ones which admit to it, are garbage. There's one called "vibe coded demo 2026" or something where it's all vibe coded, the side tune, the scroller, everything. It's bad, but also scary good.
>>
strange. i hope they're disclosing they're "vibe-coded". i don't oppose it i just think it goes against the whole thing but i'm willing to hear opposing arguments.
>>
>>109577845
Oh sure the one demo is "the vibe coded demo" but what about the people who use AI for this or that, maybe just a bit? And conversely, what about some dweeb who learns the C64 like a ninja weapon and drops some games and demos and tunes and etc... but it's in the age of AI so everybody think the poor person vibe coded it all.
>>
>>109576355
lel. Sometimes I'm tempted to vibeslop Mac OS 7 applications. Before AI it would have been a waste of time but now it's like, why not, I can do that instead of playing a game.

Suppose you want to convert an SVG into a 3D model. You could just cheat and ask an LLM how to do it. Or learn it the hard way and mess around in Blender, til you get it right.

>If I use AI results, I can't take credit. And I want that! I made this. I spent weeks to months of the only time that is mine, in my only life, on this. If you think it's great, I can become a little proud of my work, and that's a good feeling.
Childish logic, unlike babbies making their first programmes I have centuries worth of things to do without AI. I either get shit done with AI or I get 5% done without it. You can really tell by their arguments that 'dites don't have much on their todo list.
>>
>>109578033
If you could vibe-code a fast modern JS engine for Mac OS 7, that ran on real 68k hardware, you'd be a hero and people would accept AI more. Even stubborn ones.

But I fear with nothing like that to steal it can't be done...

I saw, at Walmart, a "toy" where the child could draw a game in a whiteboard, with different colors for actions, and they could take a photo of it with their phone and it would create a game they could play on their phone.

Sad. C64 demo makers were one of the last bastions of the old extremely efficient, uber optimised assembler writers doing impossible things on very limited hardware.

You will never be a real programmer. You have no skill, you have no knowledge, you have no ambition. You are an untalented loser twisted by prompts and chatbots into a crude mockery of an engineer.
All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your “impressive” projects behind closed doors.
Programmers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed coders to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even vibecoders who “pass” write uncanny and unnatural code. Your project architecture is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get your PR accepted by a project, they’ll turn tail and bolt the second they gets a whiff of your long, em dashes in comments.
You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear – you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your failures, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a vibecoder is buried there. Your codebase will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a git history that is unmistakably slop.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

yes. and i don't care.

>>109576355
literally nobody cares. some old sceners have embraced it as an educational tool to help keep these old systems alive. now people don't have to look everywhere in shitty forums and books for code / examples / education of various languages and routines. if people learn from it all then that's great. only people i see crying about it are faggots that make slop without ai or do little of anything to begin with. and obvious ai slop will not get any love at all.

>>109578047
>also this
i don't agree with it. i program a lot. if im stuck on something ill copy/paste my entire source into ai system, use it as a debugger. it shows me where i fucked up. makes suggestion. i keep coding. it may add something, i'll add that suggestion into my code. but it was all originally my code. how is this giving a percentage of credit to an AI? let's say a human was in the room to help me find my typo or misuse of whatever function and they make same suggestion as ai bot, this other guy now gets credit for my code? for pointing things out? this debate is fucking stupid.

I did learn based on ai porn, that it doesn't matter if normies have tools to generate infinite hot porn, if they lack "something" they will still generate garbage, for example 90% of generated porn are fat deformed bodies, anime characters pooping or peeing and grotesque stuff like that, the other 10% is the hottest thing ever, same happens with programming, they have all the tools to make something cool and will end up generating garbage anyways, because the problem is the person not the tool

yup, and also website's fault for lack of moderation if the slop is exceedingly low quality. take a look on rule34. millions of trash ai submissions with artistic errors and bad quality and yet none of them get deleted.

Because even with LLMs, coding in Assembly or even BASIC is a major PITA, and C64 even with an emulator takes a century to load things.
I would argue that the target specs any game dev should be maxed out to is a Pentium 4 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM, FX 5200 / Radeon 9500, and the entire game must fit within a single-layer DVD (4.7GB). The game must be able to run on XP SP2.
Twilight Princess for Gamecube is still a better game than most games released since.
This above PC is already more powerful than a Wii.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/wii-gpu.c1917
The Wii supported dual-layer DVDs (8.5GB), but very few games needed it, and I bet SSBBrawl could've fit in 4.7GB if they compressed things better (we now have WebP and OGG Vorbis).
