Why didn't Microsoft have success with Windows 8 and Windows Phone?
>>
worked fine for me and everyone I know

squares with edges is retarded.

google engaged (hilariously ironically) in anti-competitive practices. Microsoft created a Youtube app. And then Google forced them to remove it, and to use their shit app. It was shit intentionally.

Abolish law. Law is evil.

their OS was the 3rd wheel to google and apple's shared duopoly and didn't do anything particularly well to justify switching, also google and apple did their best to sabotage the user experience >>109577440
>>

They leaned way too hard into the omnitablet future. There was an idea at the time that Desktop PCs and laptops were going to become obsolete soon and they went all in on this.

Because Microsoft
Their ecosystem is trash, I don't know anyone who had Windows Phone and used it in tandem with Windows since most Microsoft ecosystem was complete garbage. Having Android phone with Gmail, Calendar, YouTube etc. and Chrome browser on Windows PC was far more pleasant experience.

The market was already captured and it was an uphill battle to create an alternative profile of mobile ecosystem to the Apple and Android/Google one.

Wasn't Samsung better placed to have their own? They had both hardware and software to some extent (they had their own OS up to a point).

Maybe Samsung and Microsoft should have teamed up, but somehow they didn't think of that. They could have genuinely created an alternative ecosystem with Microsoft software and Samsung hardware.
But instead Microsoft tried to go with their own Nokia acquisition which wasn't competitive with the big players.
It didn't help that Microsoft was so terrible at productisation and they also tend to just give up on product lines or ideas that were great. And which later get picked up by others.

Example is the Surface Duo. We're about to see the smarpthone world go exactly in that direction of building phones with multiple screens. And they killed the idea before it took off.

Another example is Zune, a great product but that wasn't promoted enough to gain huge adoption.

And they bungled their attempt to create their own app store. It took them so long and it was so shit, developers gave up.

Google sabotaged them by now allowing Google apps.

Haven't most megacorps failed when they tried to get outside of their lane and compete on products they had no prior specialisation in?

Like how Google tried to make its own OS a thing and it never caught on.

Or like how Meta tried to make VT goggles a thing and it failed. Just like Google's previous attempt.

And Apple couldn't crack it in the AI scam world, despite having a planet of cash under their anus.

>compete on products they had no prior specialisation in?
huh? they were doing smartphone os's well before apple or google were
>>

I meant desktop OS.
But Android is basically Linux with some Java layer on top.
Not entirely a new OS, but more like some hybridisation done for the sake of running Java apps on mobiles.
>>
>>109577419
A tablet interface is a poor fit for a desktop computer. The retards even put Metro on Windows server.
>>
>>109577419
mircosoft sucks so hard at everything. Google makes amazing software its not even close
>>
>>109577815
It was a new OS. Android uses Google's libraries and components and is not anywhere near a unix-like system.
>>
>>109577419
Only two percent market share and companies stopped bothering making apps for it.
Which is a shame because I had one of the phones and were actually pretty happy about it.
>>
>>109577419
No apps. The sabotage from Google was karmic justice for how MS sabotaged Nokia just before.
>>
8.1 wasn't too bad. But the hilarious part is that 8.1 more or less let you revert to a regular desktop, so it was just a weird interim period between 7 and 10
>>
>>109577419
As far as I can remember there was a major version upgrade of WinMob and app developers had to rewrite the entire app for the updated OS and they lost a ton of third party support that way,
Plus >>109577440 shit like this.
>>
>>109577419
Full push for tablet PC without understanding how people wanted their tablet PC to work pretty much killed win8. Idea that desktop is dying was retarded at the time.
>>
>>109577419
no official apps from third parties. and non official apps that consume the said third parties APIs were either jeet quality or ceased and desisted like youtube and a couple of snapchats
