Why does Youtube hate when you download their videos?
Because it fucks up their engagement metrics and bypasses advertisements?
>>109589325Because from their point of view you're being a very bad goy. When you pirate their shit they can't shove down race mixing ads down your throat.
>>109589325they don't, they promote it on youtube red, or black, or premium whatever the fuck it's called this week
>>109589325Doesn't work.
cause they're getting flooded by a million crawlers download everything for training material
>>109589930The real answer
>>109589930this is probably the reasonable front facing justification but if it didnt exist they'd find another
>>109589325Because they want you to pay for itAnd for some reason they don't treat it as piracy, wonder why
>>109589488you are a bad goy. you expect everything for free
can I use this to download songs I saved in a playlist in a bulk? if not, whats the best way, I wanna burn a cd for my car
>>109590044yes but you'll have to figure out its weird command switchesit's also a 50/50 gamble whether or not it even works because youtube keeps breaking shit on purposeand you'll likely get IP banned halfway through and require a login
>>109590071>IP banned halfway throughwhat the fuckI guess I should do it by hand
>>109589325>screen record every videowhat now shit tube?
>>109590111it's still worth a shot on yt-dlp, just saying you might get bitten by youtube crackdown.another idea would be to let it autoplay in your browser with adblock, record the audio, and then slice it up in audacity/tenacity or something. less likely to get flagged that way since you're using yt's site and "watching" at a normal human pace, tradeoff obviously more time consuming.>>109590178sign in to confirm you're not a botquality adjusted to 360pI bet someday jewtube will serve ads in-stream like twitch does
>>109590210>another idea would be to let it autoplay in your browser with adblock, record the audio, and then slice it up in audacity/tenacity or somethingno way im doing that 19th century coal miner ass labour. Is my IP gonna get flagged even if I download audio one by one by hand?
>>109590071>and you'll likely get IP banned halfway through and require a loginHow does that even work when it's different websites and one isn't tied to an account or specific user?
>>109590241idk man just giving you ideas. leave the computer for a few hours while your shit plays, then ctrl+B a few times in tenacity, export multiple. I do a lot of audio editing so that is second nature for me. or just pirate music the old fashioned way.>>109590259I'm talking about running yt-dlp off a youtube playlist on your residential IP. in my experience when I use youtube frontends like freetube, newpipe, yt-dlp, pipepipe, etc eventually my IP gets flagged ("sign in to confirm you're not a bot") and I have to switch to a vpn or something. they're clearly using some kind of heuristic along with sabotaging extractors by changing their platform every other day. maybe if you have an account it's more permissive, I don't because fuck em.
i would pay for youtube premium if they let me download video files or use third party clients while doing so. i don't mind paying but their first party apps are cancer.
>>109590009apparently you can't download even if you pay, you can only "download" something encrypted that can be played offline for 30 days only.
>>109591285Yes, Netflix and other streaming services do that too which is why it's strange they don't shut all these open source projects down as piracy
>>109592133In some countries downloading via youtube dl is taxed and legal.privatkopiering
>>109589439>bypasses advertisements?I have never seen a youtube ad with ublock origin
Fuck them, how else am I supposed to download my band's videos?
>>109589930>>109589978Yeah.When it was just a handful of savvy nerds downloading individually-selected videos for their own archives and viewing, it's a low-priority problem. When it's a massive botnet trying to absorb all their content for a competing service (whether AI or a social video platform), it's a bigger problem.
>>109595983If only someone would actually put a mirror for YT up.
>>109589920>t. retard
>>109589920yt-dlp has never claimed to be able to get videos that are exclusive to channel members
>>109589325Because it means they get no ad revenue and can't track your pageload.
>>109590241>Is my IP gonna get flagged even if I download audio one by one by hand?Who cares nigger just reset your router.
>>109596383some brainlets probably thinks it can because for a brief period of time there was a bypass to the age restriction and they think bypasses always magically exist for everything
>>109589930Hmm yes clearly ai scraping (google owns its own ai btw) is the problem, despite youtube taking measures to block downloading long before aislop was a thing. Obviously. Every fucking youtube related topic sharted out onto this board is full of the most fucktarded shitwits imaginable.
>>109589325Onlibe music had to reinvent "streaming" so the data on your computer is ephemeral. When Pandora first launched each song was simply saved as a single file in a temp folder before the player played it. You could just copy the files to save them and suddenly you're a pirate. YouTube likewise used to buffer the entire video, you could let a song buffer completely, then play on loop and it would play offline from the buffer. Now that money is involved they have to pretend to be a legitimate service and count plays and pay royalties and whatever else so you're not allowed to keep the whole video on your computer without a little effort.
>>109596957>YouTube likewise used to buffer the entire videoi swear that wasn't that long ago. i used to rely on this behaviour as when i first used youtube i was still on dialup, so any time i wanted to watch a video i would have to open it and just let it sit in the background for some time as it buffered the video.back then it was as trivial to "download" a youtube video as simply copying the .flv file out of your browsers' cache. none of this fancy bullshit they do now
>>109589325nightly returns multiple dash video+audio links for me, how do I force it to mix both in a single stream? using "-f best" doesn't work anymore, you have to specify a number like 203 or something that is not even consistent between videos, anyone facing this issue?
>>109589325Dumbasses in management think they're losing premium and ad revenue to downloaders. The truth is that people using downloaders were never going to pay for it for downloads in the first place. The programmers and engineers know this, but good luck getting it through the thick skulls of middle management and sales.
>>109597119I've been looking into this. It's something to do with the sabr rollout I think
>>109589920
>>109589325You are literally just using their bandwidth and other resources without any form of payment in return. The payment is your data and watching ads (which they get money for). Whether you care about that or not is irrelevant, but its logical they are trying to block it and hate it when it is bypassed.
Dunno why YouTube couldn't offer a service for corporates where they provide an api to download videos. It would make bank like how file lockers do.
If my favorite videos and songs weren't permanently deleted after a few years, I might not have any need to download any videos at all
>>109592387OP is asking why Youtube hates when you download their videos. This is the equivalent of you saying the sky is pink.
>>109589325>Please buy youtube premium saar
>>109602763I have it. It is nice. Love google and google products. Very based.
>downloads every single youtube videow ithout fail
>>109602834>use parabolic instead of yt-dlp>his own screenshot shows it's using yt-dlpcool story bro
>>109589488YouTube has ads?
>>109602829Based true and real
>>109590044>can I use this to download songs>what is BitTorrent>what is Usenet>what is SoulseekLike come on man...
>>109602834That's just a GUI.
>>109592387Ads are baked in videos now, you have to add sponsorblock to the list.
>>109590028Not everything, only the top of Mazlow's pyramid.
>>109589920Sign up for channel and set "--cookies-from-browser". Works.>>109589325Reduces ad-exposure, which reduces ad-revenue.
>>109589325Anyone know of a good yt-dlp fork that incorporates drm mitigation? Soundcloud recently added drm to a huge portion of their catalogue so dlp is useless there now, and dlp devs have stated explicitly that they won't address it.
>>109589325Hosting and delivering videos costs them money.Writing a terrible interface to gatekeep them and inject ads into your video streams is how they make money. If you bypass that and just download the videos, you attack the one thing a company cares about.
>>109603166>--cookies-from-browserIs that fixed? Because I had issues downloading a video using that command
>>109603248nta but I've been using it for months and it works.
>>109603208This pls, or any other scriptable solution that breaks drm. Can't stand this gay retard notion that >you can ONLY consume content from OUR platforms goyclaude refuses to help with this even when you frame it as an innocent request, I'm too poor to run worthwhile local llms, and don't have time or skill to actually figure it out
>>109600620Actually I pay for that bandwidth from my ISP, Google can take it up with them, I'm still not watching ads and I just dont use YouTube when dlp isnt working. They will never get me to pay.
