the opposite. the only people who get rich from roblox are the ones who made it in the top 100 player counts since you need sheer volume to get anything from that tiny revenue cut

POV: You finally learned how to code and got an interview to one of the coveted FAANG big tech companies. You passed every interview with flying colors, but in the end your recruiter says the Indian hiring manager said you didn't have a good culture fit with the team. Later you see one of the other candidates you met, Ramesh Patel (fake diploma, fake resume), posting on instagram about how excited he is to start his first day...

My whole life I've been the most intelligent in the room. That's all I had, too socially awkward to make many friends or be a great leader, but at least I was smart. Now AI is getting to the point where it codes better than me in a miniscule fraction of the time. It's not totally there yet, it makes architectural mistakes, but still, it's only going to get better. There's some existential crisis bubbling up, and I know I can't be the only one
>>
>>109597204
you cope by pretending that you are now an "agent manager" and "architect"
except literally all interviews still require hard, base level knowledge that you can only acquire by actually getting into the guts of software, and, like any skill - if you don't exercise it, it will disappear because our brains auto-optimize that way
>>
>>109597204
If you are socially awkward you are not intelligent. Those two things do not go together. The whole "i'm ugly/awkward/autistic but at least i'm smarter than everyone else" was always just a cope. The reality is that you're just a retarded subhuman and always were. This is the brutal blackpill that I deliver to you today free of charge.
>>
>>109597225
trvke. actually smart people are charming, likeable, have a great sense of humor and everyone naturally accepts them as a leader, husband and father.
(You), on the other hand, who needs "self improvement", are genetic trash and should never reproduce.
>>
>>109597225
That's some projection. I have over 140 IQ and a PhD from a top tier school and have been told by numerous people throughout life that I'm the smartest in the room. I'm not drooling retard autismo socially awkward, more like I'm boring to most people as I don't want to engage with them. It's fine if you don't understand. Also I am a father, and have been a manager, but I don't enjoy management as I don't really care about most people's problems or buy into the "mission"

>have been told by numerous people throughout life that I'm the smartest in the room
Larp. You might be indian and oblivious to cultural idioms but "smartest guy in the room" has been used ironically for decades to refer to cringe arrogant retards. No one would ever us it unironically as a praise. If they actually said that to you they were insulting you and you were too dumb to realize it.
>>
>>109597305
I have over 280 IQ (that is double what you have btw) and have TWO PhD from tip top tier schools in TWO different countries. My professor publicly acknowledged that I'm smarter than him. I'm a CEO often fire managers like you for fun. Also I dated your wife before she was your wife but tossed her aside because she really isn't that hot.
>>

I released my new CI/CD scheme at work. The CI system now creates the next release candidate branch automatically. I have it do
rc-vx.y.z-{name}
, where x.y.z is whatever the next minor ver is, and {name} is the next entry in a file called
release-candidates.txt

{name} is the human-readable name for the RC so we don't have to say "0.5.0"; we just say the RC name, which is alphabetical. Took that from Ubuntu. My release candidate theme is Half-Life. Our first RC is
rc-v0.5.0-Anticitizen-One
, then it will be
rc-v0.6.0-Black-Mesa
,
rc-v0.7.0-Crowbar
, etc. Heres the full RC name list - some letters were legitimately difficult to find so they're kinda weak.

Anticitizen-One
Black-Mesa
Crowbar
Dog
Eli
Freeman
G-Man
Head-Crab
Interloper
Judith-Mossman
Kleiner
Lambda-Core

Define: round?
Is that seven interviews total? Like: screener, phone/zoom interview, then four interview "on-site", then a final round later?
Or is that seven days where each had one or more interviews/day?
My worst was the former: screener, Zoom interview, four interviews on-site (some of which were over Zoom anyway...), then a final interview with the manager. They actually made an offer, but then rescinded it a few days later.

hey, since this is a tech workers general I have a question for tech-savvy people. I recently bought a new pc from a seller who had apps like anydesk, gpu-z, aida64, crystaldiskinfo, and most importantly, a hard disk sentinel app with an activator that has a whopping 40/66 detections on virustotal. this guy has no negative reviews as far as I am aware, but I feel like this is a massive security risk no? we did an in person benchmark test with a cracked NFS 2019 game (from dodi repacks probably), after that he told me to not touch these applications and to specifically go to him for tech support, upgrades, etc... this obviously drove me insane, malwarebytes only detected the activator but I didn't run a full scan or enable the rootkits option myself.

I used the windows cloud reinstall with wipe all files and drives option, but I feel like it wasn't a full clean install since I still had nvidia control panel when using right click. someone also told me that only brings windows to factory settings and isn't enough if the malware modified any system files. scanned again with malwarebytes, full disk scan option that found nothing (no rootkit option tho, I forgot about it and was in panic), afterwards I plugged in an empty usb, put the windows media creation tool in (the installer says it wipes the usb before it puts itself in here, but it's common advice to get it from another clean PC which wasn't an option for me...), and deleted every partition until it just said "unallocated disk space" for all drives. didnt format before deleting partitions, but I suppose that's the same thing though? i've reinstalled gpu drivers, browsers, 7-zip, logged in to my discord account through firefox, steam account (has a family view code tho). it's been nearly a week and nothing has happened. I have not logged into any of my emails out of paranoia yet... am I safe? was worried about infostealers at first, but google says they don't latch onto usbs so worried about rootkits now...
>>
>>109607673
you bought a PC, the PC is yours, factory reset that bitch
>>
>>109607673
I only ever reinstall windows anon. I remeber getting trained on wireshark, Npcap & Nmap in college but never once used it ever in the workplace.

If you want to solve your problem you need to do a windows full reinstall, follow up with security to perform a offline scan with boot under more options. Then full scan, reinstall windows again.

Beyond that you should be fine. perform disk cleanup while you are at it.

Everyone is panicking about AI.
Yes, it will be a better dev than you will ever be. But tokens are cheap.

These companies operate on a huge loss, using fake money. At some point, someone is gonna want to get paid and they will rug pull. Suddenly, tokens wont be so cheap and agents will cost multiples more than a mid level dev. Companies will have no choice but to cut costs by hiring devs again, but the pay packet will be much less.

Best thing for you to do, is use AI to get better at development, use it as a personal tutor rather than a limb replacement. When the rug pull inevitably comes, you wont be left holding the bag.

Relatively new manager here, I have a direct report that I've worked with 1-2 years with already. She recently got promoted last year to senior but I think she's showing signs of burnout. Seemed a little gradual since last year I've seen her input a LOT less in meetings (she still gets her work done but nothing extra anymore nor actually asking questions about anything). Then one time she went relatively quiet and like "ghosted"ish (replied if it was urgent but otherwise most of the questions or inquiries just got dropped). After I talked to her about it (she says she's fine), she's just been acting stupid. Not in a snippy or thing way, but stuff that I'd expect her to do or handle, she's "pushing" back a lot.

I admit some of the work we do is vague but it feels like she doesn't even read her work anymore and just sends it to me and goes "Boss-man, can you read this and let me know if there's something I should do on my side? Thank you,"
How do I handle this? She was a top employee 2 years ago (which is why she got the promotion and it was just a title bump/pay increase with no added responsibilities) but I think the real shift happened after the first layoff and then started going downwards the more our projects that she initiated or worked on started getting paused/cancelled and I'll admit the current projects we're in aren't exactly all peaches and rainbows too, lots of vague responsibility and ownership, doesn't feel like anybody is leading the charge except the consultants and that's another can of worms I don't want to open.
>>
>>109595247
Been there, the two person above my boss both quit within months. I feel like I should fuck off soon.

Other: I've been thinking about getting Security+ cert with 3 years of data scientist/data engineer experience. I'm not completely retarded for this and kinda enjoy it, but how hard is it to try and get into cybersecurity now?
I'm even fine with taking one step back and applying to junior positions (though as I see the top of junior salary, it might not even be that bad).
In a previous thread I was told that I should become a prostitute instead, but after thorough consideration, I decided against that.

Burnt out is normal. Ask for blocking points.

Also canceling projects or stopping progress in employee growth are demotivating, especially if there's a lot of initiative needed for ambiguous environment.

She's def burned out. Whatever she says is shot down (while she is probably told that her contributions are valuable and expected), there's barely any vision behind the project, so why bother on the meetings? No clear responsibilities despite expected accountability, she is pushing back and ignoring things because they cause a shitton of stress/anxiety.

Good on you for actually trying to do something tho. Whenever I try to bring stuff like this up to my manager he doesn't seem to really understand or care.

A lot of the times she mentions blockers, my boss usually gives her direction on where to go "you should ask X team, you should ask Y team" but then she'll just stop doing it. For example, there was a report we wanted on how many people we're onboarding and offloading but our system only keeps track of onboarding and not offloading (It's not an HR system), she gave us a report based on onboarding and said she couldn't get the offboarding data points because of system limitations. So we asked her to just check in with the HR team or integration team for this data and she just dropped it on the spot. My boss decided to ask me to fetch the numbers again instead of her in the next team meeting and I think they might've added to her attitude or something.
>>109612003
Is there any recovery for this? I've asked if anything was wrong because I've noticed her being different and she's like "Nope, everything is fine :)" Than I asked if it has anything to do with me and she was like "Nope! everything is all good :)". I remember last 1:1 I had on her, I started showing her our projects and I wanted to test a feature out and I couldn't get it working so I asked if she can try it out and all she says is "Oh, I dunno.... not really sure how this works either, maybe we can ask X instead! :)" when before she'd do it on the spot and give me her findings later. She's just really unmotivated now to do anything. Actually she is showing a bit of attitude in her 1:1s, she'll just put her hands to her chin and just nod and be like "uh huh yup yup yup :)" acting like she's really intrigued but then sometimes once in a while I'll see her roll her eyes or mouth something.

Just scared that my boss will decide to boot her and now I have no direct report to help me. (Dunno if she's even really helping me now because again now she's pushing back in a lot of her work)
>>
Sorry, one more post because this popped up in my mind. I can probably think of one project specifically that probably had an impact, we had an integration project with a bunch of consultants and that seemed to be a real pain point for her (she didn't really bring it up, but whenever she mentioned it she would be really passive aggressive about the project like saying it's doing good but then give a little bit of a mad smirk or something). I was away that day but I heard they forced her to stay after hours because the business did sign offs with no notice to complete an integration. I thought it was fine when she brought it up because we agreed that this would have to be done after hours but in retrospect it's probably the short notice that would've done it...

When was her last vacation? It may be too late. The last vacation I took (first week in 2 years) I realized how much I actually hated my job and left to find another. Unfortunately, it's partly up to her to recognize burn out and nip it before it gets that bad.

Vague responsibilities while given tons of authority is a great recipe for burnout.
>>
>>109612061
She's been taking 1-2 days off almost every other week. I just auto approve them but I'll admit sometimes they catch me off guard when she'll randomly tell me "oh can't do X meeting, I'm away that day. You approved it weeks ago, remember?"
>>
>>109612032
Ok, you deserve that.
You have a coworker you're not a manager and you try to act high and mighty. Probably actually vertical rarher than a real n+1 too.
>>
>>109612089
What did I do? What do you mean by vertical and N+1?
>>
>"roblox devs dont make that much"
>shows entirely paid for trip
>>
>>109612073
That's not enough to recover from burnout. Approach her, and give her at least 1 week, preferably 2 since you notice that she has been distant. Don't blame her for it, and let her know that you value her enough to not lose her. She might already be looking. Once you get that checked out it's pretty damn bad. Feeling like you're the only person that gives a shit, so why give a shit, is the last straw for most.

Good luck, sounds like you at least care which is more than what I've ever seen from my managers.
>>
>>109612144
The problem is I don't think she even has enough days for 2 weeks anymore. I mean with this job market, I'm thinking we'll probably fire her before she gets a job offer. We're already thinking of "hiring" another person to do some of the roles during the layoff. This may be one of the roles they'll have to work on. My only worry is that she has a lot of information (she used to be our go-to person on where to find info or what team works on what, and she's always willing to help with support people when they're away even with no training) but now she's stopped doing all that and not even really doing much work so we're in limbo on what to do with her.
>>
>>109612104
Corpo terms do define hierarchy.
I actually got a coworker like you and dislike him because all he does is distribute work to everyone (not only me) as a self proclaimed or maybe somehow implied by real manager leader while canceling anything anyone and everything.
>Oh that's easy.... Just do it so I can cancel it.
>It's actually not easy
>and he himself rejects anything that he prepare tooling or library for 10 years ago

He basically got stuck in believing that he is a superstar like he was years ago and does extremely poor quality outside of having imagined soft power by knowing most of people (other boomer employees).
>>
>>109612169
If you can't use a carrot you gotta use a stick. Either that or just be a sneaky bastard and go through with your asshole plan and lose a good employee. I'd try to pull some strings if I could, but it sounds like you already decided.
>>
>>109612183
I mean I've been stuck doing her work now for the past few months. I've been doing a lot of the documenting, managing, testing since she drops the ball on them now. I think you're misunderstanding quite a bit. I re-did the report from scratch and now I'm stuck with the same problem in which I don't have the offboarding numbers so I asked if she could help and she's like "uhmmmm I'm not really sure how to do that. There's no flag in the system that showcases that?" and it's a bit contradictory since as I mentioned last week she clearly knew that there wasn't a flag in the system to track that.
>>
>>109612183
Also I can just hear him solving any blocking points by proposing the most obvious solutions that didn't work and thinking of himself as helpful.
In your case asking hr for the data was probably already tried and ignored. And if someone keeps providing such "solutions" you just stop trying.

Basically someone who remembers doing stuff but the memory is so vague that you are detached from realities and changes.
>>
>>109612223
>she's like "uhmmmm I'm not really sure how to do that. There's no flag in the system that showcases that?" and it's a bit contradictory since as I mentioned last week she clearly knew that there wasn't a flag in the system to track that.

Looking for an optimal way, or suggesting to create such flag.

We don't own development. That's all the vendor's category. I've said to open a support ticket to them whenever we ran into this and even if they usually say "nope can't do it yet. can you submit it on our forums and if it gets a lot of votes, we'll implement it :)" but she stopped doing both of these whenever we get into a situation where we can't solve things with the system limitation. I need these tickets to prove to senior management though that it can't be done (and they'll usually tell us to submit something in the forums which I'll tell her to do so). I just think she is actually getting a bit snippy because why couldn't she just say "Yeah, I've tried the report before and I couldn't get the numbers but I can send you my report." but instead she acts like she never did the report and goes "uhmmm idk how to do this, maybe we should ask the vendor? idkkkkk" type way.

Even if you have a formal route in mind making people jump through hops without any sense or result, because you're neither manager to shield shit or feel as an ic anymore to contribute isn't the way to go.

Find a solution to make everyone happy, either as an ic or as manager offering to do a meeting with hr and joining and if that fails or is impossible then protecting the team by saying that hr didn't cooperate and wait for an escalation or project cancellation or whatever

Well I'm not a drooling webdev. I design hardware for cloud networking. The ops portion of my job is debugging issues for customers in production, because nobody but the designers will ever figure it out. We have an on call rotation. Honestly even if I never had the ops portion I would have the exact same shell scripting usage, that's just how you use Verdi unless you want to slog through a gui

Like I literally just had another scenario with her today:
>Could you please check why Y is getting triggered before X? X should be triggered first. Submit a ticket to the vendor if you have to.
>Her: "It looks like there's two of them. Both X and Y."
>Her: "I think one is getting triggered before the other."
I'm genuinely confused if she's doing this on purpose or not. I'm like triple checking my message and I have no idea if this sounds unclear or something.

Consider Sec+, Cysa+,CEH, Cissp and a Masters degree in MBA, Cyber or IT management.

Its a really competitive career since most of the Cybersecurity guys i know have masters degrees before they even start a job. CCNA and Redhat linux are also good certs.
