Unironically learn go-to-market (GTM) engineering. Figuring out what your ideal customer profile is, figure out your value proposition, and figure out how to contact them (e-mail, phone, LinkedIn etc.). It's an exciting time to build something you're able to sell yourself. The reason is because company's often make shit bloated software that's expensive to run and maintain. If you know what you're doing, you'd probably be able to make a solution that's cheaper, faster and produces better results for your customers. The incentive for employees working at most companies to refine their employer's software is just about zero, and even less since the message belted into your average wagecuck is "fuck you, you don't matter, AI is going to replace you, and if it doesn't then someone from a developing nation will for a 1/10 of your salary". Exciting times for those who aren't retarded.

computer science coding is dead, for sure. I would not want to be graduating within the last 3 years or even in the next 5.
I've worked at my current job for more than a decade but I no longer write code, it's all just AI agents now, and we don't need new local hires because the ranks just fill with indians constantly AND I only work with citizens, so that's even worse somehow.
My advice to anyone young or just starting would be to get into trades at the moment: plumbing, electrician, welding, truck driving, etc.
IDK what the future holds but outside of lawyer/doctor/pilot (go pilot if you really want to make good money in ~10+ years, esp. if you are a female) but coding is probably not the way.

For example our PLC team is all C/C++ and they work on the RTOS for the PLC, while another team works on the Windows/Linux IDE, while yet another team will make the web interface. Each of these apps has a bunch of teams of around probably 100+ engineers total getting paid 300-500k each to keep them alive and working. Better yet, download the app and start looking through it. It seems simple. Click all the buttons, then imagine how much effort you would need to go through to develop that feature. Then add them all together. Do you even have an idea of how you would develop the core application (setting up a profile, posting images, following users, refreshing your home feed?). And make it super low latency. Your application should be able to refresh the homescreen of tens of thousands of users, concurrently, while delivering less than 2s refresh times (meta developed graphql just for this btw). Okay now once you've done that, move on to stories. Then messenger, and make sure to add stickers and gifs and video / audio / location messages and end to end encryption. Then make all of these sub apps work together, so that you can reply to someone's story, or share a post in a group chat.

When I apply for jobs in my area I just get screened every single time, none of them have ever looked at my portfolio website, I can tell because there have never been any site visits from my region.
