Why hasn't sound moved to 4.0 instead of 5.x or whatever? (two top speakers to make a full D2 more precise imaging, both horizontal and vertical)
5.x atmos etc are theme park tier ketchup on meat gimmicks that are rather distracting and "impure". The clean way to watch a movie would have been a rectangle of speakers, same shape as the screen and representin what you see instead of pretending you re there (which makes 0 sense especially suspension of disbelief wise)

It was the natural step after stereo and would have more to 8 speaker full 3d cube instead of 27 atmos bullshit with limited functionality

this has nothing to do with music which doesnt benefit from xy 2d localization

Got 7.1 system and it's pretty based. Don't know what you're complaining about.

your speaker idea only works at the cinema on a very large screen, not on a 50 inch screen at home. having 8 speakers around such a small screen would barely make a noticeable difference unless you're sat 3 feet away from the screen like a sperg

Atmos 9.1.6 can have 9 front speakers and then 6 front overhead speakers to give you precise audio positioning.

5.1.4 atmos is fucking game changing. Poors who don't have a real setup and/or headphone users just don't understand.

what do you use it for though

I only download truehd blu ray rips for movies for my s95f oled. Also most games on my xbox sex support some sort of atmos, not all are truly native though but it still is a great experience.

What about a 3-D speaker setup using parabolic speakers to create a sound beam, then using ear targeting devices to identify ear location in space and having the beams follow your ears in real time?

>that chair
Imagine watching movies like that. You should be on your back on your bed enjoying movies with snacks with a big ass tv and 7.1 audio.
