These third party VPN services are only really useful if you're doing something on a nonwindows machine you might get in trouble for. Windows boxes will out you. I only use the free protonvpn version, it's more than enough for me which is pretty much just uploading piracy once in a while and geo blocking. Either running everything over VPN, split-tunelling domains for shitposting on 4chan without one with the knowledge that you're not behind one at that point or having two separate browsers, one for normalfag stuff and one for VPN stuff. You can also just have your router connect to a VPN if it supports it and have everything on the network run over it.That's at the point where it's still kept relatively simple so you'll actually end up using it, a lot of solutions are overcomplicated and discourages use imo.

My country (Brazil) is becoming increasingly draconic when it comes to internet surveilance. Every single platform is either getting disabled or now requires full self-doxxing to use in national territory. All under the guise of "protecting children on the internet". Lastly, before setting up a split tunnel I did try it on a router level and then on a whole system level before discovering those downsides to using a VPN on the modern internet. You do get more bot checks and random captcha horseshit and suddenly lazily typing 'weather' in your browser gives you the weather of wherever the fuck and you can't post on 4chan etc. not worth it.
