FreeBSD has been infiltrated but that's only because it's such a huge and corporate project, with an attendant foundation that controls the project's direction completely. Whereas with say OpenBSD and NetBSD the foundations may pay people to write code or buy hardware for devs, they aren't also in charge of project direction, which happens in a meritocratic way on the list. And forks do happen, OpenBSD started as a fork of NetBSD after all. Nobody's forked Linux, too big and corporate, you'd never keep up. Closest thing is gray386/486linux which is fine with being stuck way WAY in the past.
