In a way, you're right: patrician families, especially in the latter days of the empire, were widely disrespected, thought far too much of themselves, and were in immense amounts of debt.
A more modern analogue is the vast majority of the British aristocracy: they're also, like you, stuck with 10-15 year-old shitboxes that have to run an embedded OS, as it's not capable of handling anything newer/better, and your coping mechanism is "sour grapes".
