Call me a newbie, call me a normie. Shame me, hang me, whatever. But I can't deny that I've genuinely had one of the worst experiences with Linux I've ever had.I had spent days recording footage for a Linux challenge I was going to do. I was already on Windows, but I decided to switch to Linux for it. This isn't my first, second, or third time using Linux. I recorded once per day for 7 days and when it was finally time to stitch everything together and start editing, that's where the fun began.I opened Kdenlive and dropped one of my videos in. It showed up as an audio clip. So I asked AI what was going on. Apparently, it was some kind of codec issue. Fine. I changed some settings in Kdenlive. Still showed up as audio. So I tested the file in VLC. The entire screen was black for some reason. At that point I started asking AI for explanations, and it just started giving me increasingly ridiculous bullshit to try. After going down that rabbit hole for long enough, I finally rage quit.Call me whatever you want, but this honestly made me feel like Linux just isn't ready for mature desktop use. If you genuinely enjoy tinkering with your OS and troubleshooting weird shit, then Linux is probably perfect. But I don't want my operating system to become a side project every time I want to do something basic. In the end, I rage-quit, had to physically stop myself from snapping my computer in half, and switched back to Windows.Maybe Linux just isn't for someone who wants to use their computer for more than browsing the web and spending three hours customizing their desktop. There is a night and day difference between what Linux can technically do and what Linux can practically do. The first requires the skill of the user and the other requires the power of the operating system.
What software did you use for screen recording?
congratulationsor sorry that happened to you
>>109606569I used GPU screen recorder from the Flathub store. The AI told me that could have possibly been the problem, but I don't even know. I was so furious that I wasn't even interested in fixing it anymore.
Failing is part of the learning process.
>>109606602>not OBS
why do you expect us to rush to defend linux when you were the retard that didn't think to check your output even once? you should do this independent of platform.go commiserate about your learned helplessness with your shitty language model ig
>the AI
>>109606602I prefer OBS Studio, it's been reliable to me throughout the years.
>>109606559how do you record for 7 days and not once check the recording?
>>109606559So you were going to record for 7 days straight and didn't think to try a 30 second clip to see that it worked?
>>109606817I don't know, last time I was on g board there was a lot of Linux elitism and talking about BSD. Are they neutral now?>>109607337>>109607367I checked the footage; it worked in the GNOME video player, and the video actually showed. I didn't try to edit it because I was planning on waiting until the last day. It was only until the last day, when testing it on VLC, that I realized my video was fucked up. It was a lot of good footage, but I learned from my mistakes. Next time, even if I use Windows, I'll make sure to check my recordings and make sure the video is not messed up. It is also somewhat Linux's fault because on Windows, I wouldn't even have had to worry about there being a codec problem to begin with.
>>109607482Are you using a meme distro like fedora or manjaro such meme distros disable h264/hevc support like default (which windows also does). Those are pretty much the only distros to do it because they are corporate distros. In that case you need to install kdenlive from flathub instead. It works fine on any other distro. The videos are likely fine in your case, so you didn't waste time.
>>109608143also vlc is also buggy, I recommend mpv instead
>>109606559We fucking told you so many times not to run Wayland.
>>109606602>FlathubDo not use Flathub, do not use appimage, do not use snaps.Either use the distro package manager or go to *GITHUB* and compile it yourself.
>>109608165Okay, I'll make sure to do it next time. I know Flathub has permission related issues and some other stuff like that.>>109608155>>109608143Yeah, I did use Fedora. I thought it would have been better suited for video editing but I was quite wrong. But with everybody's advice I might just try something like Linux Mint XFCE and give video editing another try.
>>109608165The reason you want to use flathub on fedora is because that avoids codec issues on fedora. Fedora disabled h264/hevc in the amd driver, but flatpaks dont have this issue on fedora since flatpak comes with its own drivers so it works no matter which distro you use. But yes, the even better solution is to not use corporate distros that disable h264/hevc because of "licensing issues".
>nu-/g/ doesn't notice this post is written by LLM
linux users are so cucked they have a machine that half works on copium and spend 50% of their life trying to resolve esoteric issues. listen, i use linux like fucking all the time but when important shit needs to be done i know windows isn't going to let me down. it may spy on me but it's a fucking work horse.
I screwed up recording my screen on windows once. The default application option was selected in obs, which apparently doesn't work on fullscreen windows or something, so I recorded a still frame for a couple hours instead of the game I was playing. I guess that means windows is not ready for mature desktop use , but I'm glad I didn't have a meltdown with some chatbot and loudly announced my retardation by making a 4chan thread at least
