I should've sold my 4GB RX 470 years ago, but it's just been sitting in a cupboard since 2021. Nowadays it's e-waste that's worth nothing, so selling it isn't worth the effort. What should I do with it?
I'm framing my hd4870, still works
I keep throwing mine into my functionally-homless friends' povertyboxes, who have fucking GTX 750s and the like, or (even worse) Intlel onboard graphics.
>>109608682I like to slap together old shit like that for media machines or pcs I'll give to a friend's kid. Put a shitty old 160gb HDD in there and fill it up with pirated games for them.
>>109608697Based gay uncle
Make a Beowulf cluster of 'em.
>>109608728
>>109608685>reference coolerI miss baking that piece of shit at least once a month because the fuckhuge chip got so hot it "desoldered" (or dislocated from the contact pad). But it never actually died.
>>109608682I have at least one every nvidia general since the GTX 970 up to the 4090. if I collect 10 the next one is FREE!
Mine is on a shelf
>>109608682I give them to my little brother who only plays Trackmania and Mount & Blade. Which is based actually.
>>109608682looks like it was released Aug 4th, 2016 as a mid-range GPU.if you feel like it you can build a little emulator "console", can probably handle all generations up to and including PS2/Xbox/WiiU.depending on the cpu you can put in it maybe PS3/Xbox360/Switch.
put it in a box in your basement until it is needed.
>>109608682I put a cheap GPU in my desktop so I can use the host while passing through my more powerful GPU to a VM guest. I mostly use it to run pirated games without worrying about malware.
>>109608682use it to run your embedding model for your qdrant memory
>>109608682>I should've sold my 4GB RX 470 years ago,...>470 years agoAnon they didn't even invented graphics cards back then.
>>109609980You haven't seen my VOC-1500-AW, made in the Dutch East Indies (don't see that anymore). 2 tulips of VRAM, with the original Advanced Windmill bus connector.Unfortunately, I broke the original clogs that you're supposed to wear to power it. But it output the full 8 shades of yellow, and played Het Wilhelmus like a champ, last time I got it going in the early 1950s.
>>109608682You can use it as a scratchdisk/ramdrive, maybe. Nvidia for sure, but not too old.
>>109609631Take it from me a tech hoarder with more computers, storage servers and gpus then I could reasonably use. The moment you start getting rid of shit. Even if you havent used it in years. Is the moment you need it. This is a rule of the universe
>>109610024>2 tulips of VRAMKEK
>>109609358It's useless to me for an emulator box since it has no DVI-I.
>>109610024I'm playing Het Wilhelmus: Celestials right now, its not too bad for a broken piece of shit
>>109608682Keep it as a backup.
>>109610433I already have my old 3060 Ti as a backup
>>109608682Give it to me. I love collecting GPUs.
>>109608682Benchmarking optimization of my game engine maps on lower spec hardware
>>109610453>old>3060 TiOld is a 750 Ti, not a 3060 Ti.
>>109608682Send it to me, I need to finally upgrade from GT 710.
>>109610532It came out 6 years ago, unc.
This thread made me look into an ancient abandoned PC, and it took me a while to identify this NX6600GT-TD256EZ. Do these have any value nowadays? Looks pretty, at least.
>>109610821>NX6600GT-TD256EZthe copper heat sink is premium for modern commodity prices.
>>109610842I thought it looked kind of extraordinary compared to most modern ones. Thanks, anon.
>>109608682sell them to buy new ones, obviously
>>109608682Give it to the poor
>>109608682Based anons who use Windows 7 or Vista will want it, for newer models are not compatible.
>>109608682give it to me :)
The PC a cool family friend gave us had a nvidia geforce 645.Only worth 10 to 30 dollarStill don't know what to do with it.Garbage thread
>>109608682I still bave 750ti working in my desktop. Actually even my laptop has better gpu because it has ada series. It works for gpu acccelerated vms.
>>109608682I actually thinking of buying rx570 because its still good enough
>>109610334maybe there's a cheap adapter available, or a cable that is DVI-D to DVI-I
>>109608682The same thing I do with all my old pc hardware - just let it hang out in my home for decades
run some tiny local model on it, or a larger moe model if you have some spare ram too
>>109611768This, but not before replacing the thermal paste with a literal piece of shit, or at the very least wiping your ass with it.
>>109609358This. Make a games machine that works for all the old games you want to play on the TV in stead of at your desk. Optionally undervolt the GPU to the point the fans never have to make any noise you'll notice. And btw an adapter to D-sub connector for VGA signal is $0.0001 and adds 1ms of latency .If you have a radeon that has native VGA output you can get 15kHz video signal from it. Never tried it myself but some people care. For emulators and old arcade games if you care about that (I don't).If you put old graphics cards in media center PCs or NAS PCs they can help transcode but if the drivers you need are really old you might have to stick to h.264 torrents. Which are readily available so no issue really. It's still the standard. I don't have any 4K screens though so I don't know what those torrents are like.ALSO! If you have fond memories of playing on that card it might be a good ornament on the wall. I knew students who has a bunch of old motherboards and cell phones on the wall. The cell phones would get a nail right through the middle of the keypad to hold them to the wall.I have hope for the old graphics cards because there are plenty of kids that could use an offline PC for all the games it can run.Anons I finally thought of a good one: you can get one of those eGPU enclosures for your laptop. Perhaps even keep the eGPU enclosure mounted to the back of whatever external screen you use.
>>109615212great suggestions
>>109615212>Make a games machine that works for all the old games you want to play on the TV in stead of at your deskThe only TV I have is an old CRT; I threw out my flatscreen because I just play HD games on my desk
>>109613549>maybe there's a cheap adapter available, or a cable that is DVI-D to DVI-INo point if the card itself can't transmit a 240p analog signal
>>109608682Stick it in your ass.
>>109616334I like this answer the best
How are these even questions for people? Just throw the shit away.
>>109616395>*sticks it in your ass*
>>109608682I gave my 2gb 960 to some kid at the height of the last shortage and he was tickled to death
>>109608682I just play dota with mine, as I've done for the last decade.
>>109608834Only had to do it once after 10 years and used it like 4 more years before using another gpu.
>>109608682ebay
>>109613549you're a clueless one, aren't you? it's not about adapters or cables; if there's no native analog output then you'll have to use an active DAC of some sort.
>>109612807>buying rx570why not 3050 6GB? similar performance for half the TDP (no power cable or even fan needed) and will stay in support for years.
