>different Playstion 1's render their graphics differentlythis is insane because nobody noticed back in the day, this has to be a mandala affect
>>109609182>retrofags look at this and pretend that hardware is better than just emulating it
>>109609196CRT smooths it out and makes it look better than AAA ugly-on-purpose garbage tho.
what effect
>>109609210this, I can't tell the difference?
>>109609207>CRT smooths itNo it doesn't, the CRT isn't just a magical RTX On filter lol. Most of the smoothing is done by the composite cables, which DON'T eliminate banding; the CRT itself doesn't contribute very much smoothing, though it does make composite not look like shit.
>>109609222That's just wrong, these graphics were made for and on CRTs, such a screenshot doesn't do them justice. But it's useful to compare the output.CRT is indeed a magical filter.
>>109609266>That's just wrong, these graphics were made for and on CRTsThey were made for composite signals, which themselves were made for CRTs, yes. But the smoothing comes from the composite signal. If you want to pretend that the output on the left would actually wind up looking identical to the output on the right on a CRT, then you would have to pretend that a CRT's picture wouldn't allow you to distinguish between shapes whatsoever.
huh, never knew this. i did play a playstation early on, but i'm not sure it was early enough. it would have been sometime in 1996, but this issue only affects units made before late 95. not that i'd remember if the shading was worse anyway, i only played it a few times briefly at a neighbours' house. my own playstation i got much later>>109609210>>109609216you can't tell the dithering/shading is far simpler on the left?
