think of a wooden drawer, but it has 3 handles, not 1. Also gears and green LEDs

Compare LLM to a Jpeg picture full of small image where every compression chunk includes a similarity index to a vectorized reinterpretation of input data welcome Paris and this strictly mathematical but creates what seems to be a very fuzzy logic.

This happens when you treat an LLM as an "assistant" or "coworker." Your brain sinks deeper into the illusion, mistaking the model for something real. Add human confirmation bias to the mix and any response that hits the mark just reinforces the illusion.

Back in ancient Rome, agricultural tools were categorized into three tiers. You had instrumentum mutum (mute tools like plows), instrumentum semivocale (semi-vocal tools like livestock), and instrumentum vocale (vocal tools, aka slaves). People today are making the exact same retarded mistake in reverse, taking a modern instrumentum mutum and coping themselves into thinking it has a soul.

It's an autocomplete that interpolates on a massive dataset of reddit and stackoverflow posts. It's not intelligent, alive, or conscious in any sense at all.

it sounds like a joke, pure science fiction, but llm's are literally, and i do mean literally, designed to tell you want you want to hear.
they made it real, they trained a robot on such vast quantities of combinations of words such that that they can predict what you expect to follow from any combination of words you ask it. that's the definition of telling you what you want to hear. humans love hearing what they want to hear, so llms are very convincing.
what's scary is this is as much a scathing review on humans as it is llm's
