this is a horrible idea that will make everyone mad, but why should that be a reason not to talk about it?

captcha's are annoying and ads suck. Replace all that with allowing replies to cost a small fee (like less than a cent).

4chan Pass?
>>
>>109619410
we already have this, its called X premium and only bot farms use it.
>>

It's called 4chan pass
>>
>>109619471
so you want to get your bank card out and pay per post?

yeah, youre a fucking retard. buy a pass
>>
>>109619410
Yes. 4Chan should be Web3—posts cost crypto: easy. This problem has already been solved.
>>
how about a ban bond.
you don't pay to post per-se, but you are allowed to post if you pay a bond, which you lose if you're banned.

it would drastically lower organic activity on this site
i believe other chans (foreign ones) require payment and accounts and moderate heavily. the days of fully anonymous high organic activity 4chan are long gone.
tragedy of the commons

That's how SomethingAwful works.
You have to pay to post on forums.

i think it would better suit the goal of dissuading shitposting. if you just had to pay 0.5 cents to post, some people will be happy to shit up the site for a few dollars a day, but imagine you had to pay $50 to post as much as you like, but lose it if you get banned, now that shitpost costs $50.
same thing that courts and landlords do. typically you get the bond back once the contract is over without any problems, so it's not exactly the same, but the purpose is to effectively charge you for breaking the contract. and since you can't make someone pay up for getting banned since evasion is easy, you instead hold the money in bond ahead of time which makes paying unavoidable.

You'd need actually competent moderation for that to have a chance of working as intended. The only places I can think of that have competent mods are places small enough not to have the shitposting problem.

maybe if it was something smaller like $5 to make up for that, something enough to discourage obvious and repeated shitposting, but not so much that it's too punishing for a ban from an overly eager mod
