Linus has started to personally commit vibe-coded bug fixes to the kernel.https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=818bebeb63dd6bf5f4e07e145f6cdbace520a34c
Yep he's speaking my language. Thanks Linus.
>>109619429>knows it's solvable>keeps tardwrangling the AI to solve it for himi'd guess the net time between him doing it himself and him tardwrangling the ai is about the same
>>109619448The man literally wrote the Linux kernel. He understands the gravity of putting his signature on it. If he doesn't trust it for that, and you don't, I don't know what will convince you of its safety for general programming purposes.
>>109619455Thank you for responding to something you made up in your head. Next time, address the content of my post directly.
>>109619448He has been vibecoding for the last 20 years. The only difference is that now he gets his replies within 10-20 minutes instead of 2-3 days via email like before. Tardwrangling AI or other human coders is exactly the same
>>109619462Retard, I did. I can read the picture. I can read what you posted. I can read all of it, I can "make it up" in my head, I can read them with or without the narrator voice. What do you want? Tell me, what exactly is it that YOU want?
>>109619475You're the one quoting my post to put your own strawmen into.
>Linus talking to other human beings:>"YOU FUCKING RETARDED NIGGER BROKE THE USERSPACE AGAIN! I'M GOING TO COME AND RAPE YOU!!!">Linus talking to AI:>"My sweet baby, I know you can do it. Keep going... I believe in you <3"
>Linux is AI slop nowThere's no reason for commies to use Linux anymore kek
>>109619429ANOTHER VIBEGOD VICTORY>noooo Ai is useless You lost, everybody uses ai for coding nowadays
>>109619429cringe>>109619448chad>>109619455chud
>>109619485No, the "commies" are very concerned about the means of production and they still have plenty of reasons to use GNU/Linux as well as anyone who has any common sense.
>>109619487sovl + based + fuck luddites
>>109619484>>"YOU FUCKING RETARDED NIGGER BROKE THE USERSPACE AGAIN! I'M GOING TO COME AND RAPE YOU!!!"Na, that was him to the AI as well.
>>109619429didn't linus bend the knee for trannies a while back? makes sense that he's also worshipping the newest jewish creation
>>109619429>sprinkle debug printk()s all over the place>figure oug "up" should be "down">let the clanker explain whylinux is why we have flock and drone warfare btw
>>109619525didn't trannies and indians invent programming
>>109619429I'm completely fine with him using it as a tool but>I let the AI write the commit message abovethis part pisses me off, I'm guessing the linux kernel is going to be sloppified in world record speed
In the future this will be known as "the linus torvalds moment", the threshold where things definitively changed to the new order and new paradigm, where serious software development necessarily includes ai as part of the workflow. In the near future, it will be obvious to everyone that programming without llm assistance is like programming by hand without a compiler, or c programming without valgrind and other debugging tools, etc. just a pointless endeavour making yourself 1000x less efficient and not a serious person, merely a hobbyist.
>>109619429I don't have a problem with coders who know what they are doing and who use AI as a tool.I only have a problem with those who let the AI do everything by its own and create tons of bugs and very badly optimized shit.Linette Transvald lost her mind and cut her balls, but for now she seems to use AI correctly, just as a tool.
>>109619455I didn't know bugs recognized authority. On a serious note, if it's being properly reviewed, nothing wrong with adding vibed code
>>109620564>I didn't know bugs recognized authorityIsraeli ones do
>>109619429Based—AI is the future.
The Linux cultists imploding over Linus accepting LLM's is a fucking divine punishment for all the decades of them making any form of online OS discussion impossible and I love everything about it.Can't wait for these emotional retards to split the fucking kernel development in half, just to make sure there's even more fracturing in the already fractured Linux ecosystem to make absolutely fucking sure their wet dream of overtaking Windows will never materialize. It's a hell of your own making so enjoy it.
>>109619455You mean copy pasted from minix and then handing off most of the actual work to everyone else right ?
>>109619448>knows it's solvableLiterally every bug is solvable, duh.>i'd guess the net time between him doing it himselfIf you could read above first grade level, you'd know it was about finding the bug across the entire source base, not about fixing it.But keep the salt coming.
>>109620564>On a serious note, if it's being properly reviewed, nothing wrong with adding vibed codethis is the issue. linus is a proffesional who will review what he does. some random idiot is not
>>109622115yeah im gonna need a git blame on that chief
>>109622157Open wide~https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/818bebeb63dd6bf5f4e07e145f6cdbace520a34c
>>109622224This is the reason why the Linux kernel is fucking dead, it's nothing but AI slop full of bugs, literally usuable AI slop, it's AI slop so you need to stop using AI slop now because AI slop bad, time to fork the kernel to rid it of AI slop and not let any AI slop in so that AI slop won't be used. Fuck AI. Have I said that I fucking hate AI and AI slop? I hate AI and AI slop.
>>109622248>This is the reason why the Linux kernel is fucking dead,Linux kernel has been dead since 2.x. Don't blame AI for what retards did decades ago.
>>109622224yeah im not logging in to have the privilege of using git blamenor will i clone this massive repo to run it myself
What actually happened:>Linus used AI to comb through a massive codebase and pin-point the source of a known bug in an iterative, human-supervised debugging session that took hours>Upon finding the problem and verifying the way to fix it, he committed a one-line patchWhat retards claim happened:>Linus committed AI-hallucinated code to the kernel!!!1!
>>109619429Well thank god BSD exist, Linux will blow up in fire exactly like Windows did after introducing AI in everything. Devs will get progressively dumber and dumber until they will start using AI for everything and that will kill Linux completely.
>>109622359coolio
>>109622380The most based thing Linus could do. Now all the fringe lunatics will make their own little secular distros no one will use but will sure as hell try to shill them as *the* Windows killers, and big boys will work on delivering distros worth a shit for anyone who wants a usable computer.
>>109620618Nah, they're already coping and saying it's fine with Linus does it. Even Linux-using plebbitors who despise everything to do with AI in any other circumstance are coming up with reasons why this isn't a bad thing.
>>109622424Guess they realized that every AIDS sufferer is quite literally too fucking dumb to maintain something as complex as a kernel so no anti-AI fork will be made so they have to cope and sneed about Linus accepting AI into the kernel. Poetic, really.
>>109619455The fact that he has to tard wrangle it at all means that it should always be viewed like a fucking autistic savant retard child and nothing more.
>>109619429Linus?
>>109619429who wrote this in the first place?
>>109622464Original commit hash is in OP's pic.https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/37173392741c
>>1096224741. nice fucking spec inteltards2. looked at by this many people yet it still got through
>>109620618>Implying FagOS or windows are not vibecoded
>>109622486I don't blame them. Shit is hard even for professionals.
Still makes me laugh that Linus is one of those people who think debuggers aren't any good. (because the ones on Linux suck fucking ass and always have)
Years ago when systemd was pretty new but "somehow" got into Debian (RIP Ian) I had this urge to back everything up and used Borg, then I was comfy. A few weeks later I got hit with a bug in systemd that messed up with encrypted volumes and the entire thing was unusable forever. Thankfully I had my intact backup. I said "fuck this shit" and moved to OpenBSD. Then not too long after, Spectre hit and OpenBSD was mostly immune. LOLEven Steven.
>>109622486>signed-off-by indian people and chineseoh good
>>109622115Hi, Linus
>>109622486>>109622925You two are fucking retards that know nothing about what you're talking about. The best course action would be to not open your fucking mouths and show your incompetence, yet here we are.https://git-scm.com/docs/SubmittingPatches/2.36.0>with "cc:" listing people who are involved in the area you are touching (the git contacts command in contrib/contacts/ can help to identify them), to solicit comments and reviews.Only one guy co-signed it off. The rest are guys that could be tangentially related to the code, but had no input on the fix.
>>109622981Hi, cocksucker88.
>>109619429troons will be mad
>>109622999Look at how angry you are. Linux is finished lol, it has been for a long time. Hobbyists have been moving elsewhere and this will accelerate. Linux will get worse with this AI garbage, this is the camel's nose in the tent. Pretty soon it will be the whole camel and AI 5.0 will be signing off on AI 4.0 commits.
>>109619429>gpu/drmyou will own nothing
>>109622999ok fucking retard both the reviewer and the tester are in the CC list, happy?
>>109619455He didn't commit 100k lines of vibes without checking. He used vibecoding to add instrumentation and hone in on the bug. If the final result is a one liner fix that's not exactly hard to reason about.
>>109623010>Hobbyists have been moving elsewhereReactOS? Kolibri?Fuck, my sides.>>109623035>I didn't understand a lick of what you said, yet I feel offended and so I must reply...ok?
>>109623124>i didn't look at the full commit message, so i'll nitpick and use my immense intelligence to own the chud...ok?
>>109623124>ReactOS? Kolibri?>Fuck, my sides.BSD, Haiku (which just got modern 3D with broad support through Vulkan), Plan9, ReactOS as well. Which now boots, runs, installs your OEM drivers, and runs Half Life 2 perfectly along with most other classic Win32 software. FreeDOS is popular with gamers now. Lots of options which give you all the software you'd like. Haiku has a full Linux compatibility mode built in (single core only for now) now that runs at nearly native speed and can use the 3D hardware, if present and supported by Haiku.Lots of cool stuff happening, you know where it isn't? Linux where everything for the last 15 years or so has been moving to WEBSCALE BIG DATACENTER SUPER TOP 500. It's simply not for tinkerers, hobbyists, or experimenters any more.
>>109623195We're living in two completely different words, it seems. Enjoy your toys or whatever.
>>109623331I manage to get by. If I have to do all kinds of fancy shit, I have a brand new Mac Mini with 64GB RAM unified memory here, my wife's employer bought it for her, no enrollment in anything, just said "hey buy a computer and bill it to us" and she never uses it anyway. She's still happy with her M2 Macbook Pro. I have my own resources but that's currently the beefiest machine in the house.I get by. I'm typing this on a Thinkpad T520 running OpenBSD. But I can do whatever with other computers on site or remotely of course. You're small brained, you probably have an RGB gaymer machine or some shit.
>>109623396>my wife's boyfriendYou got a wife? I'm shocked.
>>109623516Let's get back to how Linux is falling apart because of vibecoding.
RIP computers - 198X - 2026
>>109620564>didn't know bugs recognized authorityEveryone knows bugs hide themselves when they feel that someone with the aura of a person who knows about computers has sat on the seat before them.
>>109622224>CS storage must not run into GSM. The old check compared the offset against GSMBASE - ccs_size for equality, which could not fail: that value is 128K aligned, so it agreed with the rounded-up offset even when blah blah blah blahThis kind of word salad that AI spits out when it tries to keep too much context of a specific prompt makes it really unreadable. I've noticed this in my boss' vibecoded slop he forces me to review. The human reading the code a year from now does not need to know exactly what the one line of code that got replaced used to do. If they really did they would look at the git log/blame. The fact that this is in the kernel too now, just fuck my shit up.
>>109620618>online OS discussionYou mean your flamewars between M$tards and mactards
>>109619429k, thnx for letting me know
Based.I wish more people would use AI.
>>109619429I trust Linus. I am sure that clanker got yelled at a lot until it produced a satisfying code.
