TL;DR, don't use Windows 7 or Non-ESU Windows 10 on the internet in 2026There is a unsolvable conflict between nostalgia and cybersecurity. While a lot of people like Windows Aero and lower system requirements, Moore's law has moved on and telemetry/online accounts are essential to keep a fleet of 1.5 billion computers with diverse hardware requirements working. For incompatible apps there is AppAssure from Microsoft as well as AI-assisted migrations of legacy software. For user interface nostalgia there is plenty of mods for Windows 11 that replicate the user interface, but The Windows 11 centred taskbar is more inline with Mac and mobile interfaces so is an improvement.Windows 10 has been given a two year stay of execution, but Linux/NetBSD are the answer for legacy hardware not using operating systems with security holes.Kimi, Claude, Deepseek and the rest are ruthless at finding security holes, including finding holes in firewalls, browsers (Chromium 109 not patched since January 2023), antiviruses and extended kernels. Using Windows 7 or non ESU/LTSC Windows 10 on the internet is basically driving drunk without a seatbelt at this point.Universities already ban Windows 7 from Eduroam now, Corporate VPNs do as well, it's only a matter of time that Residential networks require supported OSes as part of their TOS. Firefox needs to bite the bullet and stop giving Windows 7 users support, they are only harming the internet at this point.
>>109627123I would rather burn to death than use windows 11. Heck I literally had a panic attack when I tried using windows 10 in a VM. And windows 11 is even worse than 10.
>>109627123Then the solution is to open source Windows 7, not to ban it. Or at least try to make modern Windows not a huge pile of shit made by mental retarded subhumans. You must be an indian paid by Microsoft to write such shit here, so fuck you and tell your bosses to go fuck themselves too.>Linux/NetBSD are the answer for legacy hardware not using operating systems with security holes.I tried several times to have my E-MU sound card working with Linux, asked for help on forums, asked several AIs, it never worked. Also Linux's fatass is practically as huge as Windows's now, unusable on oldish hardware where Windows 7 flies.
