Once Intel introduces large cache models they will pull ahead of AMD, so basically Nova Lake. Their IHS is of a normal thickness and so never suffered the poor thermal transfer of AM5 and thus can push their chips harder; this is partially thanks to Intel's propensity for switching sockets all the time by the way. >>109633837AMD Unboxed literally got blacklisted for how biased they were being. They were for a while forcing nvidia cards to run FSR2 and comparing them to AMD cards running FSR2, and claiming it was a like for like comparison.
>>109633851>literally got blacklistedBy AMD yeah
>>109633866I think if you get blacklisted by AMD and Nvidia, you might just be a shit tech reviewer.

>>109633733>paying £900 for a card that is 2% faster than a £600 cardI mean I don't know exactly how pricing is in other countries, but i'm sure it's similar.
>>109633881It's not really scrutiny if you're intentionally doing shit nobody would realistically do, just to make the thing seem worse than it is.It's like when boomers car reviewer would complain about EVs "Running out of charge mid-drive" after ignoring every single indicator that it was running out of battery and refusing to charge it.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GWLRzvbros, what do i do? ive cleaned out my pc, undervolted my gpu and messed around with the fan curve but i cannot seem to figure out why my computer is so incredibly loud. even when opening a new tab on internet or general browsing, the GPU whirs up. when playing a game, it sounds as if it is about to blow up & the fan bearings are going out. all i play are dark souls and elden ring. is it time to upgrade? what is salvageable and what is not?budget: ~1k / usa
>>109633890>If a 5070 ti and 9070xt were both within $200-$300 from each otherIf you must know about my situation.I got myself a 5080 for 900 qid from SCAN m8. Drove to Bolton to go pick it up meself too. The showroom they have is pretty cool, the Halo PC and all the LAN Party set ups they have is very cool, would recommend, but I only live like 10 minutes away, so, you know. These days a 9070XT is like 700 quid for a decent non-povery spec and non-refurb one, so yeah fuck that shit. I think there's a solid argument to make that even the 5060 Ti will age better than the 9070 XT when you consider DLSS and shit, desu.
>>109633893First off, you said they were biased because NVIDIA blacklisted them; but then when you found out AMD blacklisted them too, you didn't change your interpretation at all. Isn't this contradictory logic?Secondly, the fact that NVIDIA walked back on their blacklisting due to massive public backlash shows that the settings Hardware Unboxed were testing on were actually popular and considered a fair comparison. Yes, two cards running FSR2 is literally a like-for-like comparison, because they're being compared against the same settings, and people don't like vendor lock-in.Thirdly, you haven't meaningfully acknowledged that NVIDIA walked back on their blacklisting, and are instead incessantly citing an incident 6 years ago; not only do Hardware Unboxed test RT and PT and FSR4 vs DLSS nowadays, but AMD's blacklisting attempts are much more recent (ie this year). Please acknowledge all these facts in your reply if you don't intend to convince me that I'm arguing with an LLM.

>>109633927>pls respond
how is this thread still alive? have you guys switched to used pc building general?
>>109633927Nah, I think they're a shit reviewer because they're obviously incapable of doing realistic comparisons if they think anyone using an Nvidia card is going to run FSR. It's obvious that running software not optimised for the hardware is not going to produce meaningful results, and is only done for fanboyism. And I'm not surprised that "Public backlash"/poorfags and redditors complaining made Nvidia decide it wasn't worth the bother.
>>109633939That's an option?
>>109633941>Nah, I think they're a shit reviewer because they're obviously incapable of doing realistic comparisons if they think anyone using an Nvidia card is going to run FSR.And just like that, you failed to acknowledge that they compare FSR4 vs DLSS nowadays. I have officially been arguing with an LLM, oh well...
>>109633941just fyi, FSR is cheaper to run on nvidia than DLSS so it's not a factor, if anything more performance
>>109633951I don't give a shit what they're doing these days because they've already proven themselves to be biased. How are AMD drivers STILL so bad? I'm still on 25.9.1 drivers that's over a year old now because every time I try and update the drivers I get all kind of issues and crashes.I'm actually tempted to get a Nvidia card because these driver issues are so ass, never had any problems with my GTX1060
>>109633985no to the paste / pads. this gpu has always been on the loud end so not sure if it would do much of anything.
>>109634009The GPU market is a very direct 1:1 competition in a way that other things aren't. If you're the kinda guy that writes drivers for GPUs, you're either working for Nvidia, or AMD.And if you're working for AMD, Nvidia wants to hire you for twice your salary at AMD. This leads to AMD spending a lot of money to maintain that small market share, and not lose it for having shit drivers, whilst also trying to keep staff that aren't going to jump ship to the guy next door.

Is there much of a performance hit from using one stick of DDR5 compared to two? Couldn't find any actual benchmarks on the internet, though seems like DDR5 uses dual channel even with one stick.
>>109635220>Couldn't find any actual benchmarks on the internethttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nMu1KFkOC4
>>109635237That's a stupid comparison because it's using two independent variables. The proper test would be to compare 1x32 to 2x16
>>109635220Single channel is perfectly fine if you have an x3d CPU
>>109635269Yours is the more retarded test setup because fewer people are realistically considering a system with 1x 32GB DDR5 DIMM.His main objective is to show how much performance poorfag builders would lose if they settle for a 1x 16GB module while they save up for the 2x 16GB config.
>>109635304I'm considering it right now because it's significantly cheaper, hence the question.
>>109635326Single module config will always perform worse vs. a two DIMM DDR memory config at the same total capacity. You are halving available memory bandwidth when you use a single stick.1x 32GB only makes sense if you plan to get another stick in the future. That video's test condition is just fine, given the 1x 16GB performance wasn't degraded by having insufficient memory capacity.

Is it a bad idea for CPU lifespan to turn on ASUS AI cache boost? According to them it "enables various optimizations" whatever that means and overclocks fclk to 2100MHz and I do notice a performance boost. My 9850x3D is running stable at -30mV on all cores at sub 80C under full load so should be fine orobably?

>>109635775As long as you monitor the temps you'll probably be fine. Though chances are you'll just get the lifespan of whatever ASUS considers the official number, rather than a lifespan of years on end as most non-OC'd CPUs will give you. Though it is annoying that ASUS never tells you what anything actually does.I just hate how downloading shit always seems to push my CPU to 75 in OC'd mode.

>>109638418I was playing CK2 for years on my office laptop with Intel i3 6006U, never had any issues. Can't imagine a grown up CPU from an actual PC having troubles running such games, unless it's from Athlon era, but even then I'm not sure.
>>109638680Pc part picker doesn't pick up the prices right for everything, it's actually 29€https://www.amazon.it/Arctic-Freezer-Black-Single-Heatsink/dp/B09VH14935>>109638689What do you mean? What should I get instead?
i need an aircooler recommendation for my 5800x3d. i don't think my arctic freezer 34 esports duo is cutting it anymore?
>>109638748So you installed the GPU drives AND the motherboard drivers? Then that's fine. If you only installed the GPU drivers then you can't use the wifi, networking, bluetooth, sound from your motherboard. But I guess you can live without those, technically.
>>109638761>What do you mean? What should I get instead?ARCTIC Freezer 36 CPU Cooler has a TDP of 219W. Your CPU goes up to 250W. You will not cooldown that CPU with that cooler. Get the one that was posted instead, the be quiet one.
>>109638779ahh well I only installed gpu drivers, but I don't use wireless internet. I have an ethernet that's connected to my pc. I get im probably coming across as dumb, but i'm completely new to this stuff and am learning along the way since I never had a gaming setup like this before. im mostly worried about chipset drivers for the motherboard I guess, because some people say you should install those before you get the gpu drivers. I still have questions though. does using generic microsoft ones negatively affect gaming? is it ok to download Intel ME consumer chipset drivers after installing gpu drivers from my motherboard manufacturer's website? (ASUS in this case)
>>109638752pretty sure even loading into the game takes a while on CK. stellaris loading into a game is slow enough that steve from gay mrs next us will use it as a cpu benchmark and stress test.
>>109638829Just install them. If it did affect gaming it's still within the margin of error so you can't notice it at all. Drivers makes your PC work. If it doesn't work then gaming is the least of your worries.
>>109638639you should get a AIO for that intel housefireunless you enjoy the sounds of fans spinning at 80-100% while gaming
what do you need a desktop pc for in 2026?dont you have laptops and phones?
>>109638867Loading does take time, but the gameplay is flawless. I heard that super late games might be CPU heavy but I personally never encountered lags.
when my m3 macbook pro dies im either upgrading to the m15 imac or the m15 mac mini. idk yet.
>>109638799Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I've done some research, and it appears no air cooler can handle 250W:https://www.techpowerup.com/review/arctic-freezer-36-s-a-rgb-cpu-air-cooler/7.htmlIf I am reading this correctly
which fast-IPS monitors run at low temperature? i can't find any reviews or information about heat output. the current monitor i use, radiates enough heat i can feel it.
>>109639052just get a 144hz screen and set it to 120hz
>>109639016you really need a AIO for intel housefiresunless you have a super awesome case it will reach 100c and it will throttle, caused your game to not be smooth
>>109639058>just endure the heat>just endure the motion blurcan i get another answer? this one is retarded.
>>109639072>what is efficiency>why can i undervolt my gpu by a few mv and lower my power consumption drastically while keeping most of the performance>more hz = less motion blur>what are slow pixels????
>>109639016Yes, if you're doing CPU intensive tasks 10 hours a day I would go water cooler or AIO.You can cool it with an air cooler but you will hear the fans since it will run at 100% speed all the time and it will thermal throttle. If you're just gaming then air cooler is fine, but fans are still at 100% RPM. But if you're encoding videos or rendering 3D models or videos then go AIO.
>>109639052Disregard efficiency; acquire desktop sun
>>109639083anon. lowering GPU power does fuckall to a monitor's thermal output.
>>109639097in this case you would lower the hz of the screen by a bit and make it run at peak efficiency. that example works for car engines, gpus, cpus and every sort of device that converts energy into heat.
>>109638773Thermalright Phantom Spirit if you want something affordable.Thermalright makes good heatsinks for Ryzen CPUs, but fan quality is a bit lacking.Pure Rock Pro 3 or Mugen 6 Dual Fan for better fan build quality.
>>109639097>>109639102display brightness also doesn't scale linearly with power consumption and heat generation.
>>109639083>>109639102so why is it, when i measure the power draw from the main, the monitor pulls the same while at 120hz or 165hz?
>>109639137you have a shit monitor and psu for that monitor :^)
Best brand for the cheapest bottom of the barrel 360 aios (like 30-50 bucks on scamazon) that can be trusted to not shit the bed and most importantly not leak? It's only for a 5600x so testicle freezing performance isn't necessary, it's only because it lives in a garage that gets up to like 105 in the summer so it hits 95c practically instantly even with the fans on full blast (including 3x 150mm deltas on the front).
>>109639170All aio’s shit the bed
going to install my first AIO build tomorrowanything i should know? Mounting it on a AM5 should not be too different from mounting a aircooler on a intel board, right?
>>109639170*120mm 150cfm deltas
>>109639052anyone with a real answer?
>>109639170All AIOs break.Get an air cooler for lower performance but lasts the longest since you only replace the fans every 20 years.Get an AIO which is expensive for better performance, but have to replace every 5 years because of condensation.Get water cooler which the most expensive but the best performance. Replace the pump every 10 years or so. Also do maintenance every year.
>>109639188Buy an air conditioner you pansy
>>109639052You lower the monitor's brightness levels if you want to reduce the amount of heat it emits.

>>109629841>8gb is well pricedgot some real bad news for you
uh. guys? Did Wayland fix its vram pigging?
>>109639555checked. imo always get an aio. Like the only super good reason not to get one is if you live somewhere super crazy like the arctic.
>>109639886clanker says:>Mesa 26.2.1 (Released August 20, 2026)could be why. on amd.
>>109639894>get an aio what's an aio ? all in one ? is this supposed to be a le leddit brainlet joke or something ? i don't get it..
>>109639886cant you just restart the dwm like windows
>>109639972like this:>>109639285
>>109639874it doesn't have enough VRAM, so it's not well priced at any price.
>>109639188look at the wattage of the monitor.that shit don't lie.heat output can be gauged relative to the wattage.some makers use a power brick on the outside to reduce heat at the screen.
>>109640048>can't run cyberpunk.Sounds like a feature.
>>109640026my bad lol..nah i can't stand these watercoolers and the hype around it.3 big ass extra fans...rather have one quiet one and it'll be a 5600 anyways.
>>109640095aio are gentler on your motherboard.

>>109639555You boomers need to stop buying the Freezer 36https://youtu.be/YY-8PZKcMYg?t=1540
>>109640178Honestly, just get an aio lol.aios are extremely smart. There are probably reasons to use an aio that I haven't thought of.One is way easier shipping.

i just buyded a noctua 360mm whatever aio.
>>109639183you might want to consider using a contact plate for the socket instead of the oem motherboard latch.
>>109639052I don't remember lcds actually being hot, are they hot?I could understand a miniled pumping hdr maybeI did notice on oled monitors however, literally warmedge lit lcd? I don't think it's hotbut idk>>109639086lg are kings of overpricing their shit and then running steep salesimpressive that that monitor is not pure smear however it seems to have decent pixel transitionsone dollar per hz
>>109641091It really depends on the monitor for lcdsMy old 60hz Samsung lcd ran as cool as a cucumber and never had issues but my 27" LG lcd ran so hot that it delaminated the glass layer from the liquid crystal layer along the edges which showed up as white spots
