Let me get this straight, the "resume=" kernel command line option doesn't actually tell the kernel to resume from a hibernation image (swap partition/file), but rather passes an environment variable named "resume" to the initramfs' init program/script, which then has to possibly resolve the device major and minor numbers and write it to /sys/power/resume, and it's that which actually causes the kernel to load the hibernation image?What the fuck. Why doesn't the kernel just resume if it recognizes the specified /dev node/partition UUID/major:minor? It should have all it needs to, /dev/ is already mostly formed, partition tables scanned and dev ids are known by the time it hands off to init. Is there any sane reason it *needs* userspace to initiate resume? I can understand falling back to userspace, but not even trying seems stupid.
