What is the use case of such trash devices? What do you learn or gain from ""building"" one?

The feeling of accomplishment, just like writing a working program. You look at it, and you say, "I made it". You poured your skill and accumulated knowledge into it. This is the result of your labors. Be proud.

Because why not? A lot of our society is superfluous conSOOOOOOM bullshit.

Really?

This is the ultimate expression of a tinker tranny. Where you spend hours reinventing the wheel to gain the approval of other tinker trannies. A computer as an elaborate toy. Like one of those child computer toys with the big buttons and lights flash it makes a funny sound and the toddler laughs and claps. Both the tinker tranny and the toddler have accomplished the same thing. Except one day the toddler will grow up and want to use a computer to accomplish tasks like an adult. The tinker tranny never reaches this stage.

PicoCalc exists and looks better.

let's be honest here, if the guy sold those online he would ask for $899 a pop, overpriced just like any freetard meme gadget made by 'proud socialists' who suddenly sniffed a quick cash grab

they're for LARPing, it's like macfag shit but macs became mainstream

Actually more like $1666:

Could be useful for a field technician i guess but 7" is pretty smol

making things is fun

No no, OP is right. Those are barely any better than an Arduino. What's the point of making a mini-PC on such a weak SBC?
>>

it's the same mental illness as someone who buys all the latest tech but doesn't do anything with it more than watching youtube
they want to appear high tech (or re: cyberdecks: like a 1337 80's hacker) but they're retarded so all they can do is consume the aesthetic.

It's essentially a modern palm pilot. You don't have ram for anything in X11 but you can run vim, ssh, git, email etc locally which is kind of nice.

It's sort of like a mindful portable computing environment, almost the opposite of what you can do with phones.
>>
>>109637578
>nocoders, techlets and of course jeets ITT bashing this guy for tinkering around
what you stupid fags should actually be bashing is him being a filthy redditor. more importantly, OP is an even bigger fag(shocking, I know) for reposting a reddit post.

The one I built is really cool, I hooked it up to some of those AR glasses. It's got a tiny enclosure and one 18650 cell.

It only gets one hour of battery though :/ I think the display setup actually draws more power than the computer.

these things are an artifact of growing up wanting a cool cyberdeck but then by the time they can make them no one wants them. a cool pic for a project blog then it will sit unused forever
