How do you do it?How is it day to day?Is it mostly for show or are you actually using it?What do you like about the unsupported Windows versions over modern versions?Would you recommend anyone else do it?
>>109639387I don't even know what I'm using anymore anon.I installed 11 on my brand new PC back when it was a fresh release and it sucked, like it was genuinely broken. I asked /g/ for advice and ended up debloating it on day 2. Don't remember how. That stopped most updates but the major stuff still slip through somehow. Tried to stop them for a while but they still managed to come back one way or another.Around 2-3 years later, most of the bugs were gone and the system was at least usable. By then, I was welcoming updates as they were actually fixing shit. Except it suddenly decided to stop updating forever. I never manually started an update so I'm still stuck on a 3-4 years old version of 11.
>>109639387I just use 23h2, no reason to use anything newer.
unsupported? I'm on 10 and it works fine
>>109639387>How do you do it?By doing nothing>How is it day to day?It works>Is it mostly for show or are you actually using it?I've been using 10 since it first came out>Would you recommend anyone else do it?Depends on their needs
>>109639504>>109639496I use Windows 10 too, its just too good. Truly a shame they stopped supporting it.
>>109639513they didn't though, it gets security updates etc
>>109639535Of course, through ESU, but I meant the standard security update deadline.
>>109639387I have a Windows 7 partition. I use it for some older games that don't work as well in Windows 11. I also boot into it sometimes when I just want to make a spreadsheet or something and don't feel like listening to my PC fan randomly go BRRRRRR from Windows 11 and random programs deciding that they must use 100% of my CPU and hard disk RIGHT NOW to do god knows what (which these days is usually installing huge updates "made" by AI to "protect" me from "security flaws" that were "discovered" by AI)I'd like to transition the later use to some flavor of Linux or perhaps BSD but honestly by this point I'm about ready to bin anything that has transistors in it
>>109639387>How do you do it?All I really had to do was install vxkex lol. You can also add sandboxie+simplewall if you're paranoid>How is it day to day?The vast majority of software just werks on windows 7, even steam games. I still recommend you install windows 7 compatible versions of dev tools though. Not because they don't work without that but if you compile your own mpv for example, it's way better to just make shit run natively. Do be careful though if you use modern compatible python builds, pip packages will still expect modern windows but again vxkex covers pretty much everything you'll encounter. Also speaking of steam, it's useful to switch to steamcmd for game updates. Modern gui steam works too but it's bloated and breaks the ability to apply skins. Oh and might as well switch to something like r3dfox or https://github.com/e3kskoy7wqk/Firefox-for-windows-7>Is it mostly for show or are you actually using it?It's my main machine, every other device (like my servers) are loonix only. If I couldn't do this I'd switch away completely from windows>What do you like about the unsupported Windows versions over modern versions?Where do I even begin? It's way faster on my machine, looks nicer, feels comfier, etc. One thing I cannot particularly stand with newer versions is the deprecation of the control panel and forcing uwp nonsense everywhere >Would you recommend anyone else do it?If you have new hardware not really but there are crazy people that make it work here too. I think you should just switch to free software only ideally though. I do this only because this is what my heart desires, it's not a need and as such it's certainly not for everyone. If you do go down this path though maybe you might also like using windows xp instead
>>109639692Very based
>>109639387I've win11 enterprise stuck on 23h2 with most of the bloatware removed via scripts or GPOIt's simple: Don't be a retard
>>109639387still on win3.1 n00b, that's how i roll
