Nostr is a complete scam and crypto-shills are coping hard.
It’s not "decentralized," you’re just completely at the mercy of relay jannies. If a relay admin silently shadowbans your public key or pulls the plug on their server, you’re gone. Censorship wasn't solved, it was just outsourced. Relays quietly drop your data on the backend, while client apps aggressively censor what gets displayed on the frontend.
Holding a private key is totally meaningless if no relay broadcasts your signature and no app renders your feed. You didn't escape centralized control; you just traded one corporate landlord for a patchwork of petty, unelected relay lords. Absolute garbage protocol.
>>
>>109643807
ok so in your magical wonderland you're so unlikeable that nobody wants your signature? no relay at all? maybe that's a you problem
>>

it is enough to convince me, that nostr is trash. i genuinely gave it a try, i tried everything: all kinds of clients, relays etc.

its an elaborate crypto bro scam. just look at the "faces" of nostr like fiatjaf or derek ross: they are greedy, opportunistic psychopaths who only care about money. they even fail at hiding their true intentions.

Nostr sounds cool but if the platform allows for any kind of moderation done by its users that is not strictly client side, I cannot use it in good faith. I want a good protocol but I can't stand everyone trying to filter through these platforms so that they can have their positive affirmations and live in a tiny echo chamber of awful people. I want the full, fat, unfiltered content of the platform, delivered to me completely untouched. From the looks of it, nostrl will revolve around a filter-centric design just like all of its predecessors and will be exactly the same. Platforms like mastodon are awful because of these censors, where the entire userbase wants to live in tiny bubbles, and the platform is actively focused on blocking/muting others, and on bluesky it becomes the main feature front and center.

Mastodon claims to be fully federated but if you pay close attention for what servers allow connections from others, you'll quickly realized there is a large, often used section of servers where you must be liberal, and a second set of scattered servers which allow free speech.

From this post it sounds like nostr will become exactly the same, maybe I misunderstand?

And the end of the day, any platform that allows larger scale moderation not explicitly and manually done by the user exclusively for their client will be abused to control the narrative and censor people with unpopular opinions, and WILL be abused by the powers that be.

it can't be the same though. on nostr your identity is portable and you can use any number of servers simultaneously. the fediverse simply doesn't have that.

I made a Bluesky a month ago. Within about 5 minutes I could make sure most all of my feed was pron.

Since it's a Leftist site, it was all gay p0rn. A bit later and I had a feed that is 90% naked women and straight buttsex gifs. (It's really difficult to not be a faggot on BlueSky).

I tried to make a Nostr today to do the same thing. I downloaded Amethyst and Coracle, but they are both absolute crap. Even F-version Amethyst is so censored that you have to click to see any "adult" content (even ladies in bikinis). You can't search for anything - instead needing to find people based on their name. Just following 100 "NSFW" pages gets you maybe 2 that have ever posted anything.

But at least it isn't gay.

Coracle is useless though. I can't even log in. It just logs me in as random other people in Read Only mode. I haven't even found naked women there yet. Zero. How do I search for pussy if the search doesn't even work?

Plus you need to download other apps just to log into the nostr apps? This whole thing is a nightmare. I shouldn't have to spend 40 hours of customizing my feed just to find some nice tits.

He's a retard for conflating censorship with moderation.
You can have one without the other. Look at the leftist in-fighting happening across lemmy/piefed. They have moderation, defederation, domain blocking, etc. But none of that stops users from curating their own feeds. My instance can defederate from another instance but users can still follow their communities and post there just fine.

nostr based, polished discord/slack like ui, git events/backend. claude can come in and bot well.
>>
>>109678468
So my understanding is for any kind of decentralized, freedom respecting, censorship free communication standard to exist it has to force all nodes to freely share all information and put filtering onto the client level. From what I can tell with nostr the nodes themselves can filter whatever they want depending on how the owner wants filtering to work, so nodes can shutout any discussion that doesn't have access to another node.
In practice that will never work as long as node owners are considered accessory to crimes committed by users. Like cp. Because pretty much all node owners do NOT want to get subpoena'd by a government when some idiot sends a known hash through their system. So they have to filter.
