Got raped by Microsoft.
Reminder that NT was supposed to replace OS/2 kernel.

Not really, early versions were pretty shit, specially compared to other OSes like UNIX, Mac OS or AmigaOS.
>>
>>109645243
it wasnt more advanced than NT for workstations or servers and it only took a few years for Win 95 virtualization to leapfrog it for crap PCs

you forgot RISC OS

The system requirements were also a decade ahead of the home PC market. The workstation market that could handle the requirements had already settle on Unix or VMS, and then Windows NT filled the niche that IBM was aiming for.

That's a bit of a stretch

Turns out making an operating system that's really good at running non-native applications is a fucking terrible idea. OS/2 as a platform brought nothing to the table except additional performance at the cost of hardware compatibility, it was only a matter of time before something else replaced it and that ended up being Windows 95.
Linux is currently in the same ditch with the recent surge of non-native gaming on Linux, desperately trying to claw its way out before everyone realizes that all the magic happens in user space.

Until Linux has better software and a higher level of convenience it will remain a pipe dream.

wjats your fucking point nigger. all kernel maintainers work on all kernels

linux kernel dev work on freebsd and openbsd and literally microsoft NT kernel devs are all macos fags niggers

If Windows is superior to Linux then why Microsoft had created WSL and Azure Linux?
