true story. my sister's laptop was set up by her old boyfriend. who apparently is the average techlet retard and set up the main admin account of the laptop with his MS user account. my sister has been using the laptop for years with all her stuff on that account.she asks me to change the name of the account. which sounds easy and reasonable. i tell her that's a MC account that we can't access as it belongs to someone else. we have to set up a new account but we have to manually migrate everything from one account to another. MS only offers a command line solution for which i literally cannot fucking find any guide to.fuck.

>>109652972Here is your honest answer that'd be straight from /fwt/.Because Windows has 0 standardization on where application data can be stored. It can be on AppData, on registry, on Application's own folder or even your Documents. And the Windows Installer subsystem has no metadata for it. This means that anyone who wants to make a backup software either (a) has to backup every folder like Documents or entire AppData or (b) have known rule dataset that does this.Since neither guarantees full migration, almost nobody does that. Since you wouldn't know you missed some data.

There are some default folders that the user might use to store certain types of data (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, etc.) but there is no enforcement whatsoever, the user may simply choose to not make use of them and save all his shit under C:\shitfuckcunt\ instead simply because that's what he wanted. It's not an iPhone where Apple decides where all your data goes and you have little control to go beyond the walled garden. The "user data" can be any random file on the drive except well-known files belonging to the OS itself. They cannot know where your data begins or ends. They cannot know which files belong to what program, because once again the user and his programs are free to do as they wish, there are some default directories intended for certain use cases (Program Files for installs, AppData for config, etc.), but actually using those is strictly optional. A user's program can do its own shit entirely, it doesn't have to be installed under Program Files, it doesn't need to use AppData for config or anything at all and so on for everything else. It's a PC, the user can use it in any way he sees fit and the programs the user chooses can run in any way their developer saw fit as well, there aren't really any restrictions.The only solution would be to copy literally everything, which you can already do, either by literally copy + pasting all your shit or making a full disk image that will contain everything (there are many tools to do this).
