Browsing the AUR one day, see a mysterious package
>gnome-cool
Decide to install.
Reboot my PC, GDM appears... But something's wrong...
The background is all black, and my username has changed...
>logging in as Emmanuele
Huh, weird. Don't know who that is, but be a bug from this bleeding edge version of gnome.
When I get to the desktop, the wallpaper is black too. The welcome tour opens up, but the text is all garbled. When I finally get to the last slide, the welcome tour won't close, no matter how many times I hit the button
Suddenly, HE appears.
>anon, why is KDE installed on your desktop?
I didn't even think my new speakers worked, thought the driver hadn't been upstreamed yet.
I audibly say into my microphone:
"I just needed it for work. Stays more productive."
He barks back at me
>use case for being productive?
Suddenly the screen starts flashing red, and picrel (my sleep paralysis demon) starts laughing on screen, as blood oozes out of my monitor and hard drive. The sound fills my home, louder than the speakers should be able to get, and to this day my desk is stained with the red blood.
I threw the hardware in my trunk, drove it to a dumpster outside the church down the street, and have since been using KDE on my new thinkpad.
Never installing that shit again.

For me its:
No native support for desktop icons.
No native support for a bottom panel.
No native system tray.
No functioning archive manager.
Nautilus is too basic.

I actually like the Gnome/Adwaita theme, and I use a fair amount of GTK4 programs even in KDE. But it's clear they don't don't want me as a user so I stopped trying to force it. Most things can be fixed with extensions, but at the same time why bother when KDE just supports everything I need and Gnome kind of feel like it's slowly dying.

I'm not gonna add a bunch of temporary folders and documents and shit to my application launcher. Sometimes I just want easy access to some files without having to make a bunch of favorites and bookmarks.
>*punches you in stomach*
What is the point of even having a fucking panel if it's not used for anything?
>*punches you harder in the stomach*
I didn't design the fucking programs. I know the Gnome devs don't use Gnome so they don't notice these things, but I live in the real world.
>*File roller wants to know your location*
File roller haven't been usable since GTK4 since they fucked up the drag and drop support.
>You mean its perfect?
Oh, so have they finally added an independent white/dark mode switch? Support for rearranging and hiding drives/recent/starred? Showing disk usage? Browsing archives as folders? A file drop popup menu? Folder thumbnails?
