i sent my laptop in for service because the temperature 2 on hwinfo was overheating to 104C when installing software. they sent it back, didn't fix the issue and now the processor is running around 20C hotter on average and will spike to over 100c when opening a game etc.

what the fuck did they do? i've sent it back to them for a priority repair and they said the processor is "running within specified temperatures" so I then emailed them reminding them of the other issues with the laptop and that it's running hotter than it did before i first sent it to them.

initially they tested the CPU temp and said "no fault found", but then when reminding them of the other issues and that the CPU is running hotter than it did before they've passed the information to the technician and that was around 36 hours ago.

seriously i don't know what's going on, i just hope they fix it this time. why was the CPU hotter than it was before???
>>
>>109661809
You temp sensors are broken
>>
>>109661850
it did feel hotter to the touch when they sent it back though and it would throttle a lot more. even when i limited the CPU to 4ghz it would reach highs of 100 and it was very hot to the touch.
>>
>>109661867
Which processor? Which thermal paste? Which fan?
>>
>>109662680
intel core ultra 9 275hx. i don't know what thermal paste they used. the fan is the stock laptop fan.
>>
>>109661809
No clue but it might have been the thermal paste and they might have reapplied the thermal paste and fucked it up. You could crack it open and try reapplying it yourself.
>>
>>109662869
Laptop? Oh boy. So did they clean the heat sink for ya or?
>>
>>109662934
well it's currently back in their possession. they ran an initial diagnostic and said that the CPU was operating within normal temperatures. i did send another email regarding some other issues with it and the information has been passed to the technician. haven't heard anything back in 2 days so hopefully they've been fixing it properly.
>>109663151
not sure. i think they must've repasted it and done it poorly because the temps are worse now. they said it's within normal temperatures but as i said above i told them that it's running hotter than it was before so hopefully they'll take note and not ignore it.

Because everyone knows you can just type 'creed one last breath' into youtube and the only reason to use iTunes in current year is to support the artist.
>>
>>109661809
Is the actual body also hot or are you just getting a screwy reading? Is this an old laptop? What OS are you using? Has it been cleaned?
>>
>>109663342
There's a lot of variable with thermal solutions; I would call them up and ask what they use.
>>
>>109663735
also is this a new issue or has it been like that since you first got it? Did you get it new or used?
>>
>>109663735
>>109664179
it's an msi vector that's new. sent it off first about the ssd temp then it came back with CPU temp issues that weren't present previously. windows, the machine is clean.
>>109663825
i'll have to ask them. they are a service repair company that are certified by MSI so i would've thought they would have to use the paste MSI tells them to. i just have a hunch that they've fucked up the paste job. even using throttle stop and limiting it to 4ghz it'll get WAY hotter than it did before anyone 'repaired' it.
>>
>>109663735
the body is also hot i forgot to add

Have an old HVAC where the remote stopped connecting because I messed the config up. The unit is now useless since it was built to work exclusively with the remote. Saw some Uart connector on the latter and tried to find the hidden menu with Putty with no avail. Can someone help me to find the right baud to access the remote menu? What are the odds that I could connect it to the HVAC machine to replace the internal controller? Where should I start as a total n00b?
>>
>>109664273
you should try disabling clock boost in power plan, you'll need to toggle the option on first in registry though, "efficient enabled" is usually the recommended setting but considering your situation I'd just fully disable it, you could also try undervolting it too since it's an intel CPU, maybe there's a driver issue I would check that out and as for thermal paste I had good results with kryonaut, ptm7950 is supposedly amazing but I didn't get around to getting some yet, I guess since it's an MSI there should also be some control panel from them that you should play around with
>>109664282
I'd also disregard >>109661850 then but 104°C does seem like a lot my old laptop would just turn off if it reached 100°C

I want to configure a dedicated server for a game on my desktop. I have a router running OPNSense. dnsmasq is my DHCP server. Should I use dhcpd on my PC or dnsmasq to configure a static IP for my PC? It seems like you can do it with either but dhcpd seems easier.

As a total noob? try different settings and see what works. Perhaps you need to power cycle it to see something. I did something similar breaking into a camera, connected up and pressed buttons and saw what come back to get the tx/rx pins the right way around and the speed correct. If you get keys back, but one for every two key presses you put in, you are too fast etc.

Did steam change something about their webpages?
In firefox I can no longer see the main media area, where videos and screenshots are shown. The area is present while the page is loading, but once loading is complete it collapses and only the media reel is present. Making selections changes nothing.
I am on a slightly older version of librewolf. Checked in troubleshoot mode with all addons disabled, still present. Did they pull a google and change things to some hyperrecent standard for no purpose?

I fear one day having headphones leaving grease marks.
How do I prevent this and fix them if they are?
>>
>>109666199
They make replacement pads. Most are not too hard to replace. Might need to check a YT guide though.
>>
>>109666666 (woah)
Alright I got results saying to use mild soap with damp cloth so not moist enough to damage the electronic parts.
I don’t know if my oneodio headphones allow for replacement pads but with that said i hope I can stumble across a tutorial that eliminates headphone greasing surfaces due to getting crusted with natural human oils as I have to use my pc a lot.
But thanks anyways. I didn’t think of the replacement headphone pads before.

Those pads looks beaten to hell. I would try to replace them. Cleaning them is a temporary fix, they're not supposed to last a lifetime.

>>
>>109666745
Don't verify it more than once every 24 hours or the site doesn't like that and will block them.
>>
>>109666722
They're not mine. I got rid of my old set of headphones for a new pair but should have placed them on a paper to have them leave the grease marks. They were used during the coof lockdowns so I didn't bother to shower a lot and they became "grease phones."
The thing I want to say is that I want to prevent them. Apparently mild soap on damp cloth helps. I'll have to do more research. I also hope to find a way to "stop the greasing" if it happens.
Oneodio seems to have headphone replacement options. Now the headband looks a bit more difficult so I want to do research on replacing it or taking it off the headphone to clean it if my current model allows for it.

Once again thanks for mentioning replacement pads. It never occurred to me about those.
My previous headphones were declining in quality anyways they were on their way out.

How do I get into pirating software?
I mean torrenting too.
I would like advice on how to keep my PC as safe as possible from malware, trojans etc.
Linux system btw. Still distro hopping.
>>
>>109666807
I personally have a 2nd PC running Proxmox that has a Windows VM in it and I torrent stuff there to an external drive. I also do my testing there. If I get a virus I nuke the VM, since the files are in an external drive I can get the files again, or delete it if I don't know which file was compromised. Also on my main rig I set up another Windows VM, but this time no internet access. If I get some kind of malware that steals info from my machine not having access to the internet helps. My main machine that I do my online gaming is clean and I don't move pirated software or anything there. I also have a mini PC where I do my internet browsing with no gaming, no other software, just a basic, clean linux distro.

I think the easiest way is to just get a 2nd PC, do all your other shady shit there and don't let it connect to the same home network as your other PC. So get a second ISP and VPN. Make sure you don't put any information on that PC. If you need to log in to something, then don't. Don't use steam, don't go to your bank, etc. If you need to register for something like a shady site, use a 2nd email and make sure it's not linked to your main email. There's multiple layers to protect yourself.

Windows 10. Arranging windows from the task bar (show windows stacked / show windows side by side) acts as though there's an invisible extra window, causing an empty space. How do I fix this?
>Well if you go to your Snap Windows settings...
All that shit is OFF. I hate the Snap feature. I just want the old-school taskbar method to work properly.

As a techlet, how would I set up a computer with AI hardware and use my main PC to "Run" it? I don't want to put it up on a screen or anything, I just want to use it remotely...
>>
>>109665336
butter, obviously
>>
>>109667397
>set up a computer with AI hardware and use my main PC to "Run" it
you would set it up like normal, but with a webUI that you access through the browser, after that you can access from any local browser on the network by going to its IP address with the right port

If you don't understand copy paste the above into your favorite LLM and it will walk you through

They repasted it incorrectly.
>>
>>109663825

Don't do this. Call them up and tell them they screwed up, demand a refund, and tell them that you're going to send it back, and you want them to do it correctly this time, free of charge.

What are people doing for passwords these days? I've never liked the idea of password managers or 2FA but realistically without them I'm just reusing the same password everywhere lel
Do I have better options or should I bite the bullet - and if so, which manager?

There's a site for comparing IPTV providers, I wanted to check something on it but I forgot the address and can't find it now. You could search for a channel name and it would show you a live screenshot and stream info from all the major providers, how many channels were alive or dead on each provider. Is this site still up, anyone got the link for it?
