There are pros and cons to both.Windows mostly only updates itself, but includes some Microsoft products (.NET as the biggest one) and occasionally device drivers (sometimes marked as optional updates).But you have little choice what you will actually receive. If you know there is a problematic update you don't want to install, you can't choose to not install it but install other updates without downloading a specific tool for it (that may no longer work with Windows 11), and what is actually IN updates is obscured most of the time (sometimes it is literally just nagware).On Linux the updates come through the package manager where you install most of your programs. Because all the packages are worked on by different groups, updates come at different times, but you can choose what you update and you can usually check what was actually done in each update.
