what's the point ?

More like off-brand XP. Win98 actually had a nice gui unlike every version of adwatia.

>Uses more ram then GNOME or KDE
since when? kde pretty optimzed these days but it still runs way slower for me on low end machines while xfce runs flawlessly. Gnome on the other than is super heavy.
>Looks like Win98
the defaults are ass but you can make it look pretty modern, but then again a lot of the appeal of using xfce for people is that it looks old school and isn't trying to be modern.

GTK is faster than Qt with Vulkan.
>>

>what's the point ?
the point is it just works.
>>
>>109677757
No it isn't, but that doesn't matter because they're both almost unimaginably slow.

Stable and reliable
2 years between versions and they don't change what's not broken. Meanwhile the other big DEs break shit every 4 months

I still like mousepad

These are all objectively false.

>Less functional than KDE
Sure, but Xfce users don't want all of that bloat.
>>

what the fuck are you on about
>>

It's comfy.
>>
It never crashes and it has Win XP Total Conversion

other than that I use KDE now. It's powerful where you can customize everything. I don't like the Windows 11 vibe the default KDE has (why the FUCK does the file search have an option to search the internet?) but you can customize everything your way so it doesn't matter.

XFCE was actually nice. I stopped using it when they went from GTK2 to 3. Bad.

I thought I remembered someone forking it, kind of like what what happened to KDE -> TDE, but I never found a link, so I must have imagined it.

I already think XFCE has stuff I don't need. Why the Hell would I want more?

It should have stayed the default on Debian too. Truly the most reliable and flexible GTK-based DE.
>>
>>109677690
it's older than both gnome and kde, and has less bugs
>Uses more ram then GNOME or KDE
this must be a recent thing, it used significantly less when I last used it (about 10 years ago)

xfce is great I wish lxqt could be as good as it. for now i'll stick to poolasma.

Mint with the rat desktop is beautiful as fuck and light, what's not to love?

If it weren't for /g/, the poor rat really would have been forgotten. Thanks for keeping it alive
>>
>>109677690
I remember when this was the only DE anybody on /g/ recommended because it was lightweight, modular, and not a total fucking buggy mess. GNOME and KDE got good enough for most people, though, while offering nicer looking, more featureful desktop.

I remember when they changed to CSD for no reason and pissed off their entire userbase.

not today

Wish it had a better notification center. Had to make one with quickshell and just run dwm. Used to use xfce4-panel patch

QT is heavier than GTK albeit

I wish notification centers didn't exist. The duality of /g/entooman.
