Got a pair of 14TB Toshiba enterprise drives from serverpartdeals they both have 53,000 power on hours and 27 power cycles. So powered on for 6 years. Should I return these sumbitches?

serverpartdeals sells used stock so you got what you paid for.

and those drives should easily have at least 4 more years in them, toshiba enterprise drives are serious workhorses. only reason whatever server sold them is because they upgraded to 24TB drives or something.

the estimated life left "value" drops to 1 at 40k hours.
no idea how accurate their estimations are but I would not trust these disks with anything not mirrored AND backed up.

Cold storage only. Mechanical, working non stop 6 years. Sold. Most likely so many of them failed already that they decide to phase the model out. And it's not because Toshiba, it's because all the HDDs are like this.

That doesn't always reflect reality, hell it could just be programmed to return that because it has that much warranty.

You should not trust any HDD without backups to begin with.

Oh no, 40k hours on a server HDD. That's so extreme!

Hard drives don't die. It's a myth pushed by big SSD.

I have one of these since 3 years ago sitting in my IKEA drawer as a cold backup
Should not be doing this?

Look for physical corrosion, it is more consistent than software report.
