I've been using XFCE my whole Linux life. Recently switched to KDE, thinking that it must be good now since everyone shills for it and Valve is funding it.
>it keeps crashing
>random bugs everywhere
>copied Microsoft on having every one of their apps have a different design (why does dolphin look like that but system monitor like that?)
I'm using Fedora KDE, anything I can do to fix it?
>picrel is https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1w1u3jk/dont_think_percentage_works_this_way_dolphin/

they just finished union so their qtquick and qtwidget themes should at least have consistent colors/rounding/padding/whatever now

Kirigami will still stick out like a sore thumb

Whenever someone complains about KDE they always bring up some bug I've literally never seen, crashing that I've literally never seen, or say it's missing some "basic" feature that I've literally never heard someone say they want before out of any DE.
You're entitled to just like something else better. You don't have to grasp at straws for contrived excuses.

There is no better alternative.

No, they are too busy developing a million different KApps(™), the desktop itself isn't the priority anymore

KDE just announced an LTS branch which should backport security and bug fixes to a fixed version (6.6) for 3 years.
I think this might help a lot of kde issues. Most people use kde on fedora and/or arch, both of which stay very close to upstream kde so bugs are introduced to you first.
I always had issues on arch for example, almost never on debian. With LTS versions it'll probably be even better, sadly the only distro that ever uses their LTS is kubuntu which is a hard pass for me.
Debian and leap should seriously consider adopting it as well.
>>
>>109685039
I am using KDE on arch and update to the newest build as soon as available. I have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Have zero issues with KDE. SOMETIMES very rarely do settings get reset or some bug happens but it usually gets fixed. Most recent bug that was solved in a day was the thumbnail preview sizes were reset not staying what you set them too but it was fixed and my settings stuck. However that is bound to happen when I am running cutting edge.

Use Cinnamon. Why Cinnamon isn't the default Linux DE I will never understand.
>>
>>109684776
Can not open file explorer window as root. This alone made me change back to Cinnamon even though I quite liked KDE. But there were other odd quirks and reasons for changing back.
>>
>>109685205
Cinnamon is good and GhostBSD is missing out on that wayland smoothness by using Mate with Xlibre (even if wayland is exiting beta on cinnamon).
KDE is good only on rolling context as it has a shit ton of dependencies that are biased to things like Gentoo or Artix. Do not use KDE on Debian stable it will break.
>>
>>109685205
I wish cinnamon was remade in qt. It's so comfortable but i hate every gnome aspect about it and gnome devs are hostile.

I would ask if you're just incapable of searching but you've clearly got some other disability too.

KDE functions perfectly fine on openSUSE.
>>
>>109685243
Qt sucks, like GTK and its devs are annoying but Qt is absolutely not the solution.
Wanna use anything but the latest version? Pay a license! No backports for you.
Dealing with an annoying bug? Pay up or wait 1 year for the fix to reach the latest open source version.
Choose between QtWidgets, QtQuick or QML (javascript), each with each own drawbacks and theming bullshit.

Don't fuck up cinnamon. Clem should just fork and maintain his own GTK and be done.
>>
>>109684615
is this a nvindia issue? I ran KDE on an intel laptop with 2 cores that couldn't even hold 60fps in terraria and KDE was extremely stable

kek, KDE spent a million during KDE 5 to 6 to rewrite plasma shell in QML and this is QML's performance vs QtWidgets. QML is javascript btw.

Running your enter fucking GUI application is root is for retards.

Statements made by the utterly deranged.
>>
>>109684615
Autists get really angry when you point this out, but the truth is that GNOME just works. All those million shitty "customization" options in KDE etc, ultimatley don't matter and only make the codebase more brittle. The results speak for themselves.

>i am blind
>>
>>109688147
i dont like gnome's UX at all, but it's true. They take a slow and steady approach instead of "move fast and break things", I wish KDE would start moving slower and polish shit before shipping them.
>>
>>109688246
It's more important to deliver a cutting edge product than to deliver a slow paced methodical product that "just works".

KDE had HDR support and VRR support for ages and practically helped write the Wayland standard for it, for example.

GNOME may take their time "just working" but it is KDE that is at the forefront of modern technologies to the point that they are literally writing the standards for it.

Why doesn't transparencies work on my intel iris machine? Even with themes that have transparencies none of them ever look like everybody else's screenshots. I ran a command to check for graphics acceleration and everything is working fine.
>>
How do I rice my KDE desktop? Installed Kubuntu but its horribly ugly.
I started by reducing the height if the bottom bar, but all the themes and icon packs I tried are ugly so I don’t know ehat to do next.
>>
>>109688282
Nigger it's a fucking desktop environment, they're not working on intergalactic travel or some shit. Get a grip.

The simple truth is that GNOME just works, while KDE wastes so much time "writing standards" for modern meme shit that in the end, it's a mess.
>>

Not trying to defend Nvidia btw, but that is no excuse.

Would you fly on a cutting edge aircraft?
>>
>>109688599
You dont.
KDE has always been like this from the very first version onward.
They have no leadership and no standards. They just randomly copy parts of microsoft's designs without any clear plan or goal. This is the result.
>>

Meanwhile, ironically, The Windows 11 UI was clearly inspired by GNOME (whether you personally like it or not).

Meanwhile, I just have to use both for 5 minutes in actual practice to draw my own conclusions. KDE is complete shit; GNOME, while also shit in its own ways, it's far less shit in comparison.
