I like that ReactOS and shit like GNU Hurd exists but they're so far behind the curve that they'll never ever catch up to be functional for day to day usage. Even IF ReactOS managed to complete its currently defined goals we're just getting a FOSS version of Windows 2000, a 26 year old operating system. Give it 4-5 years and AI models will be able to put the entirety of Windows XP's source code leak into context and rewrite it into a "safer" language like Rust and then just move to improving the OS until its comparative to current OS in functionality. Knowing this has to be demoralizing as fuck if you're planning on joining any sort of ambitious project with long horizon goals.
