How old were you when you discovered that the MHz display next to the turbo button was a lie?
>>
>>109690017
It's not a lie if set-up correctly.

why don't they make turbo buttons anymore? would help more people play graphically intensive games

The turbo button set the computer to a SLOWER mode, for compatibility: some very old programs from the early DOS era were tied to the speed of older CPUs, and would run too fast on newer ones. That's pointless now, because all modern programs correctly separate logic from cycles.
>>
>>109691528
There was no standard though, some ran at native speed when turbo was on, others while it was off or vice versa.
>>
>>109691536
Regardless, that was the purpose. Because otherwise, why would you ever want a slower PC?

I feel bad for people who had to grow up with x86 / Wintel / PC-Compatible shit.

What did you have then? Mac, Amiga?
>>
>>109691615
Both and a PC.

I feel bad for tranime morons with no future like you.

But I'm already living my future.

>>109693255
Actually it was rich relatives living abroad who upgraded often and used to offload their tech shit to our family.

ok nepo baby

I never once my whole teenage years wondered what that number meant. And I don’t push buttons if I don’t know what it does.

>all modern programs correctly separate logic from cycles
great optimism
>>
>>109691528
Your fucking button was wired backwards.
>>
>>109691528
so it wasn't a TURBO button but rather a RETARD button
>>
>>109693716
They correctly separate logic from cycles, but not always from frames per second

>I don’t push buttons if i don’t know what they do
Live a little man just go for it
>>

Pretty sure mine was faster when the turbo button was on
