Im convinced that high quality video destroyed the internet. The internet used to be almost exclusively text-based, you had to read to learn anything, just like a book. Pics were generally low quality, you had shitty gifs and clip art, and videos were sub-VHS tier or flash animations. The flood of internet videos on the web around 2016-2018 (look up "Pivot to Video") completely destroyed the integrity of every site. Social media became cancer too obviously due to algorithmic feeds but the switch to visual based communication from written communication massively lowered the quality of everyy website, not just social media. Hell, look at 4chan, you could probably link the decline in posting quality with the introduction of .webm. 4chan was better with images and gifs.
