wtf is going on with Omarchy? why is everyone pouring millions into it?

because these millions are pocket change for these people/companies, they're just supporting their friend's project.
the project will become interesting once they stop relying on arch and start building everything themselves, arch is pozzed, this distro needs to die

It's to get the linux crowd to support AI OSes. It isn't popular, so it follows the same enshittification as all modern venture capital projects. This is the growth phase. It might actually do something useful, but embracing it is the path to supporting the creation of your own prison and thought police.

>>
>>109697761
It's about breaking piracy, but it works out of the box. The distro doesn't support torrents, for example. The opinionated side is an anti-distributed internet and more centralization. For users of other operating systems trying to escape, it's like a Linux Mint or Ubuntu with even less options.
>>
It'll wash and rinse the idiots out of the rest of our communities, so more power to it. It's always good when overhyped trash like this and Zorin make waves, so there's less eyes on the rest of us. Let the koolaid drinkers take the blunt of the storm if it comes.

>why is everyone pouring millions

nobody's pouring millions in there, its a con man trick to make retards like you spread this fake news. fake it until you make it.

i cannot imaginge some CEO trashing money on some project (OS distro) without prior consulting with the board, they have a directorate or somth, if you just start pouring money to every retarded project you will simply lose trust as a executive. so, obviously they have to meet and discuss every penny with donors, what do they want in that distro etc.

but you leftoid retards are too stupid to ask such Qs
>>
>>109697733
Honestly, having a reliable AI in the terminal that can be asked about functions and commands would actually be a good use for it. It functions best if it can sift lots of data for a reliable answer quickly.

If.
>>
The AI stuff is a fucking red herring. DHH just wants to have a computer and OS that did not have to rely on the work of troons.

It has AI in it, its what investors crave.

It is same scam like Brave. They also will do MITM, sell user data illegally and start pushing for advertisements and spyware. Then they start converting to unrelated "source" code and switch to proprietary code without reproducible binaries like Google Brave Spywarium.

They do advertisement with millions of dollars and anons are too stupid to see propaganda and bots spamming how good these MITM malwares are.

Money laundering most likely. There's no money to be made in loonix world, it belongs to big corporations and nerds hanging around it are basically lunatics working for free to enrich corpos further.

"Investing in obscure loonix distro" literally means they are going to launder a lot of money. It cannot get more obvious than that.
>>
>>109697596
as long as they use it to fund autists like the hyprland guy, I'm okay with it

>the distro doesn't support torrents
How the fuck can your operating system support or not support torrents? It will detect if I install a torrent client and be like THAT'S A NO-NO USER or something?
>>
i saw someone in my university class running omarchy, i thought it was some variant of arch with a pre-configured WM
>>
>>109697596
>why is everyone pouring millions into it?
People are tired of trannies and browns seizing FOSS projects and ruining them. Omarchy stands against that and deserves all the support it can get.
>>
>>109703310
Bump because I actually want an answer to this. Explain yourselves omarchy shills. What the fuck do you mean the OS doesn't support torrenting.
>>
>>109697596
When you finally find out, it'll already be too late.
>>
>>109704263
Anon means no official omarchy image is distributed via torrent, breaking Linux tradition. You can only download omarchy via cloudflare servers.
>>
>>109704533
Oh so it's literally nothing. Who gives a shit lmao.
>>
>>109697596
It's a laundering scheme I think, or people are just insanely retarded. I have donated money to kde and gnome because I was so disgusted by this insane bullshit.
>>
i am not against flavours but i hate that every year there is shilling campaign of some meme distro over and over. it was manjaro, endeavouros, then cachyos and now omarchy. all of these arch flavours are just theming + pre-installed packages i.e steam, obs etc. you can use archinstall to install arch easily w/o even reading wiki page. you can select your preferred filesystem type like btrfs or ext4, your preferred bootloader like grub, limine or systemdboot. it doesn't need mental gymnastics unlike gentoo installation. you can setup an opinionated arch installation based on your personal preferences.
>t. arch + swaywm user
>>
>>109705504
I agree, but at the same time I remember the "desktop linux community" (loltroons) having xheir own collective tantrums about archinstall making DIY arch systems 'too accessible' for new users, instead of telling them to embrace their natural stations on Manjaro or Ubuntu.
My basis for supporting omarchy is that it respects the intelligence of new users enough to offer them the opportunity to come to their own "this is just a bunch of bash scripts" realizations about Unix systems, which brings more chuds off the gaymer plantation and onto FOSS.
The philosophy of legacy noob distro UX has always been to hide as much of this 'Unix-ness' from the user as possible, under ugly Windows-like graphical interfaces and >appstores, which is why chuds get bored to tears and quickly write off Unix-like systems as inferior.
>>
>>109697703
>once they stop relying on arch and start building everything themselves,
this is never going to happen lmfao
>>
>>109706071
>this is never going to happen lmfao
it isn't that massive of an ordeal as it seems, archlinux has been taken over by troons, it's just a question of months before they start doing batshit crazy stuff so that omarchy stops using their packages even if it's legally alright
>>
>>109697596
well 37signals is DHH's company so them funneling money into omarchy isn't hard to explain. i assume everyone else is just his CEO friends
>>
>>109705504
>you can setup an opinionated arch installation based on your personal preferences
Most people don't know what their personal preferences are and they don't want to go to the effort of finding out. That's the appeal of Omarchy. If a tech billionaire coder chud says he spent 10,000 hours coming up with the best opinions and building them into an OS, a lot of people will expect it to be good.
>>
>>109706234
If omarchy existing causes an arch implosion then I guess I am pro omarchy now even though I'll never install it myself.

People are realizing that commie faggot degens were the ones preventing YOTLD all along. Good job, DHH.
>>
I could listen to DHH rant for hours but I could never leave the Mac ecosystem for development and Debian for servers. I’ve never found a compelling use case to use Arch or Omarchy. Someone redpill me.
>>
>>109702984
But how does that work? How does investing in a product that makes no money return the money in a clean way?
>>
>>109707919
Hyprland made me addicted to automatic tiling window managers.
Using a MacOS and legacy manual window managing just feels strange now.
So getting Omarchy where this is set up properly out of the box is a really good starting point.
APFS is also a horrible file system and is noticeably slower when dealing with git repos or creating worktrees.
Debian for servers is fine.
>>
>>109703320
it is, but it's scope has grown

what is the point of omarchy? what does it do better than debian, arch, or even ubuntu?

Are trannies finally getting kicked out of linux? If so, based.
>>
>>109700059
Which one? The SaaS shit running remotely is obviously not acceptable as a default for all sorts of reasons.

And while qwen3.8 or such is also pretty decent even that requires more hardware than what most people can casually allocate to always run without getting in the way.

Besides even with that there are many reasons to sandbox and contain especially the agentic versions that can access the filesystem and internet. The easiest method there to not reinvent too much of the wheel will be like docker/podman or if you must firejail/bubblewrap but these are not completely without sysadmin skills.
>>
>>109708390
I'm so happy the troon side of FOSS and computing at large chose to take up an extreme anti-AI/ML stance
it's obviously inevitable the current fringe minority against them will change course eventually, when they find a new 'current thing' to rally against
but in the meantime, this gives chuds a chance to flip the table and get a larger presence by making (and later maintaining) more relevant projects/infrastructure in the FOSS scene
while the troons are stuck doing everything by hand with increasingly less discernible difference in code quality as time goes on
>>
>>109708439
>this gives chuds a chance to flip the table and get a larger presence by making (and later maintaining) more relevant projects/infrastructure in the FOSS scene

All that "making more relevant projects" to vibecoded garbage is just painting the clown makeup on thicker.

>>109707932
Money laundering is not about making money. Same with tax evasion. You lose some on the way always, because front costs money. Omarchy is a front of some sort.

If it's not laundering or tax evasion scheme or casino-like front for covered up bribery, then I don't know what it may be. But it's obviously not real.
>>
>>109706071

>And that's even more specifically defined with the "by DHH" byline when you install the system. Before this can be an amazing system for everyone, it first has to be an amazing systemfor me, personally.
This is the most cucked shit I've read. Imagine donating money for some chud to vibecode his arch dotfiles and using that as your own distro, while having bloatware from his own company preinstalled
