YouTube is over 20 years old now.

What new features do you expect from it?

A rating system would be nice rather than just a +/-. Home page could showcase "most recently uploaded" so you could find small channels and interesting stuff. Maybe even a customizable channel page with unique backgrounds and a small chat section

A 5 star system for rating

ability to sub or create local playlists without an account but we all know that will never happen
freetube is good but I hate how the RSS feed just dies for some period during the day and how it breaks every other week
>>
How about organizing the content into hierarchical categories. I should be able to browse like this:
Funny > Animals > Cats > Cats Breaking Things
Or
Help > Instructional > Cars > Brakes > Audi A4 2012
Instead of using the bullshit search bar.
> Why?
So I can discover new things without an algorithm controlling me in subtle ways

It has degraded in that time. Far more censorship.

They once had this feature that showed all videos in bubbles connected to eachother letting you view where the algorithm would lead in 3d in real time to see what video suggestions would be based on what branch you went down.
You could zoom in or out to view thousands of these bubbles at once and pick any of them.

That was a nice way to pick content. Didn't feel like you got boxed in quickly based on prior videos.

Unironically it was just still perfect twenty years ago, before it was even renamed "youtube", and since then it did not get any "new feature" it just kept getting enshitified.
>>
>>109699675
It could, like, have a button that makes the video the size of the browser page. Not like fullscreen but full page.

Buying Premium still does not give Lossless/FLAC on YouTube Music.
Buying Premium still throttles anything past 1440p.
Buying Premium still doesn't offer actual quality bitrate past 1440p.
Buying Premium still does not auto-skip pre-baked Advertisements like SponsorBlock does.
Buying Premium still doesn't offer a full fledged channel blocker,
Buying Premium still doesn't give full fledged AI slop blocker (uBO can do this now btw thanks to the new AI tags).
Buying Premium still doesn't offer any sort of UI customization to reduce thumbnail sizes etc.
Idk what is the point of Premium, legit. And no, I cannot steal something that doesn't even reach through my network.

>inb4 PeerTube

>>
>>109699675
It's a finished product. There is nothing left to add to YouTube as a product. The AI features are nice, being able to directly ask YouTube something is cool, but as far as I know, YouTube is just finished as a product. It's kind of like Dota 2 if you ask me, the meta changes from time to time (regarding the algorithm especially) to keep the game engaging and fresh, but fundamentally it's still the same game. With YouTube, there aren't heroes to add per se, but you get new content creators from time to time.

The old algorithm where you could spend hours clicking recommended videos and fall into weird rabbit holes. It's nothing like that today.
>>
>>109702658
That's probably for the betterment of society.
>>
>>109702681
the modern algorithm is designed solely to serve you as many ads as possible
>>
>>109702689
The modern algorithm is largely designed to be anti-addictive. The people who use adblockers will still be marketed to by other, more discrete means, similar to how tiktok does it. The creators are paid a fee for shilling their product discretely. You can't sponsorblock the fact that some creator some person likes uses a particular AI harness, for example. Or that they recommend a particular AI provider. Those recommendations given by creators drive real business revenue. Google has plenty of ways to make money, advertising is one of them. They also sell hardware, like Pixels and Chromebooks, and offer premium APIs to developers who work in a variety of fields.

idk how people can stand current year YouTube. The official interface is hardly usable, there are more ads and sponsors than actual content and the algorithm is highly manipulative.

I 'member when Apple had to make their shuffle function less random with weights 'n shit so people would stop complaining about how Apple's shuffling wasn't actually working (it was).

Google will not delete a channel just because you or anyone asks nicely; they receive millions of fake requests a day from people trying to delete other people's videos. Using the Privacy or Copyright forms forces Google's legal compliance teams to look at the request, which is the only way to get it done without a password. Do not waste their time. If you decide to use the DMCA tool, be prepared to upload your legitimate, valid, photo ID.

This shit is cancer. Use this:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/youtube-anti-translate/ndpmhjnlfkgfalaieeneneenijondgag
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/youtube-anti-translate/
IIRC you need to toggle off either "untranslate subtitles" or "untranslate audio track", because it breaks YT.

The Google Engineers are currently flexing. Will the free software community manage to defeat The Google Engineers, or can the free software community defeat them? Time will tell. Are you gonna let these Google engineers flex, or are you going to circumvent the anti-adblock technology?
>>
>>109703488
To the Google team, I'm sure to at least a few of them they consider this to be fun, like a game. Fuck with the yt-dlp developers, they go back and forth, etc. It's probably entertaining to some of them. Real work happens on both sides.

I'd like to click somewhere on youtube and have it load the content under 2 seconds with my gigabit connection and their many CDNs. And I'm not even talking about the video itself.
Is it really that much to ask?
>>
>>109702524
>Buying Premium still throttles anything past 1440p.
What does this mean? It can't be throttled, it's a bigger file. You have a bad connection.
>Buying Premium still does not auto-skip pre-baked Advertisements like SponsorBlock does.
Jump Ahead. It's been in there for over a year.
>Buying Premium still doesn't offer any sort of UI customization to reduce thumbnail sizes etc.
They're the right size on my phone.

Please understand, SPAs are the future.
I just loaded YouTube with an empty cache and after clicking some elements to load lazy-load graphics I ended up with 20.3 MB. Without any lazy loading it was 20.0 so I assume that's some design constraint they have. The self awareness to have one but for it to be 20 MB. Sheesh. Their own profiler in Chrome is flagging the load time as red. Load 2.57s, Finish 15.9s. Whatever that means. On purely technical grounds YouTube is probably the worst website ever created. Chrome can play non-obfuscated DASH webms natively, so that is the performance that you should measure against to eliminate any browser engine or network effects. 0.09 seconds is a lot less than 15.9 seconds is all I'm saying.

Why are you being such luddites? Web 'p does the following

A) Give you 30-50% smaller filesize over PNG with 0 loss in quality.
B) Give you 20-30% smaller filesize over GIF with 0 loss in quality.
C) Generally 20-30% more efficient than JPG.
D) Backwards compatible with 10 years worth of software.
E) Very low decode complexity, works fine on 10 year old computers.

If Google had invented Jpeg extra large would you hate it too?
>>

Luddites are based. I dont associate with anyone who isnt a luddite.

>>
>>109702638
I wouldn't mind except broken + deterministic can lead to situations where a large playlist will shuffle itself into a loop of only 20 things.

It's a feature that's completely broken, and has been for a very, very long time.
>>
>>109699840
Dude dislikes don't even matter anymore

A way to disable Shorts without having to use uBlock.
An option to make thumbnails a reasonable size on desktop. I have to use the Control Panel for YouTube extension to have more videos per row and also fix the grid placeholders to match. Either I'm retarded or I can't seem to do the latter with uBlock.

Vorapis V3 is kind of nice but it's still too buggy for my liking.
>>

>What new features do you expect from it?
what features it won't fucking change/remove, ftfy
>>
>>109699675
>What new features do you expect from it?
Not auto translating video titles
Removing shorts
Prominent display of like / dialike bars, or even better a 1 to 5 star rating
Search that shows you what you search for and not what the algo thinks you should watch
In fact just revert the codebase to 2016 and it’ll be a big improvement.
>>
>>109706620
Yeah. Google is spyware but it doesn't stop webp from being a nice format. I don't know what that has to do with fucking YouTube, though.

cash in on users that can't install an adblocker, kinda like cheat engine packs ad malware in installers if you don't want/cant recompile the source

Is anyone experiencing youtube refusing to scroll-load new videos if you're logged out? Whether it's the front page, a channel's uploaded videos, or the sidebar on a video, nothing loads when I scroll past the first few. Also comments won't load under videos

Animated webp supports transparency + 6 million colors.
