Oh I'm loving this. Now there's a loading bar in my search engine. Is the internet over?
>>109704436Thank AI bots for it.
>>109704436It's a soulful captcha. I wish more sites did thisbtw startpage, duckduckgo or qwant or kagi
>>109704436doesn't load for me anymore at all even though the extra 4 seconds were painful enough, just switching back to ddg.
>>109704436Checking to see if you're looking up something naughty.
Selfhost 4get
>>109704436>Is the internet over?has been for 4 years.
>>109704436it shows that the developer behind it, is unstable or mentally ill. they keep changing unnecessary things
>>109704436I had to go back to dickdickgo :(I guess the only options now are that or google in a private window for special searches
>>109707138>google in a private windowPrivate windows don't do shit except not add it to your computer's local search historyAbsolutely 0 difference from using it in a normal tab and clearing browser history afterwards
>>109708162Use case for clicking the little buttons to wipe history when you could just close the private window with hotkeys?
>>109708865You can do whatever you want, I'm just saying you shouldn't don't think that it actually does anything for privacy.
>>109704436stop being a cry baby that thing takes less than a second to verify.
>>109704491>duckduckgoDon't. I'm using on my desktop. The amount of times I was wasting time searching shit on DDG only to find it in 10s on Google is beyond counting.
>>109708881>The amount of times I was wasting time searching shit on DDG only to find it in 10s on Google is beyond counting.this... this is why i switched to startpageafaik it just takes the result from google anyways. the results i get are good compared to ddg. like, i can search for a specific bug or problem and i get a stack overflow post or a forum post about it. which i couldn't on ddg, ddg sucks.
>>109708881That's why you !g or !sp
All these shit-ass sites have ads for themselves now
>>109704436It's much better than duckduckgo which is fucking useless, but it's still not great. There must be something closer to google.
>>109709105As far as I know Startpage is just a private frontend for Google search, the results are identical minus personalization (you know, the part you want to get rid off: tracking). The image search is different and fucking sucks tho.All the web searches suck now. Google gives you results that have fuckall to do with your search like if you search about a RAM speed issue it will give you SSD stuff or if you search about your Linux DE you get results on how to do stuff on Windows. Duckduckgo respects your search more but it has almost no filtering for automatically generated AI content. Sometimes the whole first page of results is just jeetslop fake sites that have the words you are looking for so they can get engagement. Google filters those out at least.
>>109709173I'm still not happy about the shilling of Startpage and the fact how Librewolf defaults to this too.Isn't Startpage just an additional layer of data harvesting between you and Google, I mean okay, Google gets de-personified data perhaps because everything is originating from a single point of entry but at the same time Startpage tracks your stuff anyway. It's a catch 22 or something like that.
>oh no, i have to wait five seconds for my search results, what will i do??this is because ai scrapers decided to check the whole internet just to milk two more cents from the VC titty.
>>109704436FF + uBO + DuckDuckGo = Never had a single issue in my entire life of using them.Dunno why you inbred subhumans forcefully use trash just so you can larp cry and frustration on a dying imageboard.
>>109708162try againprivate windows forces cache and media download to be done in memoryI miss when /g/ wasn't full of jeets
>>109709280>additional layer of data harvesting between you and Googleyou could say this about any other search provider that queries googlestartpage is a more reputable company than fucking google and it is euro so it respects GDPR
>>109710164>DDG>eating shit and being proud of itclassic /g/
>>109704436I wouldn't mind if it was once or twice a day but I am getting it on every new search>FF ESR + uBO
>>109710164that just means you don't use your search engine for "specific" stuff. the stack overflow posts i get on google/startpage are way better compared to what i get on DDG.
>>109704436Why do they hate POWblock so?
>>109704436About 6 months ago I switched to brave’s search engine>shillOn Firefox>but ddgI honestly hate bing’s results
>>109704436The popular web as was designed originally is mostly over, yes. Google hasn't been working on Lynx (text based web browser) for two years now. In fact I don't think it works on anything but a "modern" browser, not just simple javascript support. Also all popular browsers nowadays outright refuse to load a page if it's not SSL supported. Which is bullshit. As for the internet overall, same shit has been going for years with other services like XMPP. Eventually all the big providers of instant messaging completely walled their services. You only use _their_ clients, and even though they basically use a hacked versions of popular instant messaging protocols, they will not allow a third party client to connect. They even do this with fucking authentication apps! Microsoft for example outright refuses to open their shit for third party 2fa applications. You have to use theirs. Long gone are the days of an open internet supported by all major companies. Smartest thing anyone can do is just buy hardware, connect it themselves and write a crawler, participate in private groups (there are decent amount of IRC servers), use a heavily hacked gecko or chromium and just visit obscure sites, everything else should be treated as the plague - careful and controlled.
>>109710395Alright then, I'll try out Brave search for a few days. If it turns out to be shittier than DDG, I will find you. I will find you, anon.
