every ubuntu video or news site be filled with comments of people saying they don't use ubuntu and that ubuntu sucks despite the video having great view numbers. those comments have hundreds or even thousands of likes
so, why does ubuntu cause so much seethe between linux users?

It's the Windows of Linux
>>
sheep mentality. these new (and mostly young, which kinda explains their behavior) linux users consume content made by "linux gurus" who make a big deal about how arch or whatever is the only good distro and how essential is for you to install arch the manual way, otherwise you are just a baby, and therefore their communities turn into circlejerks based around the idea of how smart they all are because of which os they use to watch their porn. that wouldn't be an issue if they didn't break containment and went around bragging about how superior they are. i'm sure most of them wouldn't be able to tell you why they hate it other than "snaps bad"
i don't use ubuntu, i don't plan on using ubuntu in the near future, but i think we all owe at least a "thank you" to canonical. without their compromise to make linux as easy to use as possible, most of us would still be on windows.

this, if they removed or replaced snap with flatpak, the big majority of users would have no need to use anything else
>>
>>109707004
fpbp. Especially with snap.
>>109707063
Flatpack is the same thing.

Windows sucks because of the attitude toward software development, distribution, maintenance, and consumption that also generated those ideas. If you try to recreate that on Linux you'll just get Windows but without win32.
>>
>>109707063
RedHat is starting to replace every app with Flatpaks, not from Flathub, from their own propieatary repository
no one will bat an eye because they love the new popular distro
>>
>>109707004
It's not even Linux at this point.
>>
>>109707327
Well it's certainly not GNU.

Ubuntu and snap is the greatest gift to computers, ever. Snap is greater than flatpak in terms of features, especially with its latest improvements. It's also nice that almost all software is official as snaps, whereas flatpak is more community oriented. Ubuntu has done a great job at striking balance. Server, personal computer, etc.

Terrible bait

I liked Ubuntu until Canonical shit it up with sn*ps. It was one of the few good beginner friendly distros and they had to ruin it.
>>
>>109707063
do they still put ads in the fucking command line? Have they updated the rust binutils or are you still stuck with a broken version in the LTS?
>>
>>109706894
>snap was botched
>shitting it up with corporate corporate crap
>often questionable defaults
>lacks a lot of the niceties that are standard in newer distros
>GNOME is widely disliked, especially from former Windows users
All while trying to play into the (long outdated) reputation of being THE linux distro
They burned a lot of their goodwill with several big missteps, and have fallen well behind. At the same time trying to pretend like it's all fine instead of actually doing better.
The reality is that it's "fine", but shouldn't be the face of Linux anymore.

It's just monkey see, monkey do at this point. Most newbies have never ventured beyond flavor of the month distro + KDE Plasma. They are told by linux youtubers (shitty lifestyle gurus) that snaps are bad and that canonical has 'made questionable decisions', but they don't know what either of those are. What's more is the fact that a lot of the budding elitists who are drawn to linux actually like the idea that it is supposed to be inaccessible to normal people. Thus, they don't like the idea of a distro that works without tinkering. The funny thing about it is that so many of the same types have been jacking off fedora lately because it isn't ubuntu and because Linus Torvalds supposedly uses it.

redhat
>>
It's because it's accessible and works, people can't waste their time doing bullshit busy work that feels productive.
People call it a beginner distro, what does that even mean ? Does it just mean it works and you don't have to spend hours fucking around ?

Used ubuntu at university, all the university workstations used it and it was fine. If you have real work to do you can't waste time on busy work.

Also elitism larping ig

>filled with comments of people saying they don't use ubuntu and that ubuntu sucks
people that use ubuntu don't tend to sperg out about linux in general
