I was actually thinking for the past couple of days about learning how to make music with a DAW. I was looking for a genre that apparently doesn't exist and the closest thing I found to it was done really poorly. I think I have a much better concept. But putting that vision into practice is another thing. So I've been researching DAWs and trying to decide what I am gonna use, and how to use them. I have no experience making digital music. I figure I will install one and mess around to get the hang of itI want to ask you guys what you think the best one to use is on linux for free

There's a plugin called Cardinal, which is basically vcvrack with a bunch of free modules, that you can use to get a wide variety of sounds and effects, but will take hours of your time to learn and understand it intuitively, but the big cheat code is to use the "host time" module's "beat phase" and "bar phase" to drive an lfo with a phase input. You can use phasor modules to shape the phase wave, which will affect the lfo wave.

also this might be why shitters claim that lossy compression sounds like shit even when a better codec like opus and a high bitrate is used. opus does affect the sound but it's extremely minute and doesn't seem to go away with a higher bitrate, and people say it's pointless to train your ears to hear it, it will just make it less enjoyable to use things like youtube. low bitrate mp3 like vocaroo obviously sounds bad but anons make schizo tier claims about high bitrates and proper modern codecs which only seem reasonable if there's a problem on their end like if their system can't handle intersample overs or they have abnormal hearing (hearing loss or brainlet) so the compression algorithm doesn't work properly specifically for them. it also might explain why shitters insist that certain highly successful songs sound like shit, that they have some high frequency distortion or whatever. the songs are highly successful and they sound great to me so it's pretty obviously a problem on anons side and not with the actual song.
