In hindsight dropping 32bit support on macs was a terrible idea. It rendered a large amount of games unplayable and discourage developers from releasing new games on macs.

Back in 2015 there was way more games with native mac ports then there is today. Theres no difference between a macbook and an ipad now
>>

not really. Apple telling their dev cattle to maintain their software or to fuck off is probably one of the greatest strengths in their platform.
Look at Windows for the polar opposite. Compat shims everywhere, baroque APIs that are so "low level" they satisfy almost no one and M$'s own .NET team can't use them correctly (biggest lel desu), 10 different ways to do anything, 5 new UI frameworks and well, the whole .NET v. Win32 schism.

I hate Apple, I hate fagOS and iOS, but taking a nuke to legacy shit code is correct and based.
>>
>>109717562
Backwards compatibility is important. Apple punished there customers for buying 32bit software because they were too lazy to support it

To be fair, most of the industry has done this sort of thing for a long, long time. There have been precisely three PC operating systems in the entirety of history that have put a non-zero amount of effort into maintaining backward compatibility: DOS, Windows and OS/2.

The fact that all three were written by Microsoft just reinforces this fact.
>>
>>109717562
>maintain their software or to fuck of
this implies software can not be complete and that is wrong. a piece of software can be finished. it can do what it is designed to do, nothing more, and not need maintenance.
selling people on the delusion that software is a never ending treadmill is a scam to push people into the never ending spending of money
>>
>>109717547
Apple doesn't want gamers. They make enough money without them.
Macs are not designed for sustained heavy loads and they don't support powerful graphics cards anymore.
Gaming is complicated, wears the hardware faster and leads to extra support.

I bought a Mini (two actually - the first one was an Intel) simply so I could port my software to something that had more than typical error bars of market share.
>>
>>109717586
>Backwards compatibility is important
no. it really fucking isn't.
again: Windows, the Web, etc.
a lot of shit code that can never be fixed or replaced.

maintain your shit or fuck off and die.
>>
>>109717547
It doesn't matter if your software runs on your new Mac. These things are for posturing, not getting work done.
>>
>>109717547
This is why I intend to back port my mod 2015 to Mojave. It was the last version that supported 32but, and I have a perpetual license for Adobe CS6. It can also run boot camp too so I intend to put either 10 LTSC, 7 or XP onto it.
>>
>>109717735
>maintain your shit or fuck off and die.
maintain what? I bought a product in 2013 and it no longer works. it could still work perfectly with little cost to apple. why is that acceptable to you?
>>
>>109717594
>this implies software can not be complete
correct, because that's simply not true. hardware changes, costumer demands change with the evolving ecosystem.
We have shit C code at work written in the 80s that was perfectly usable in the isolated, batch job work it was given. Now we have real-time, always available, demands of it and guess what? the code was unmaintained shit full of system breaking bugs hidden by basic use.

even going simpler, let's say something really simple like /usr/bin/cat, I/O subsystems are literally evolving in real time on Linux and even WINDOWS. the day of blocking read, moving into userspace memory and blocking write are coming to a close.
kys.
>>
>>109717735
It is and its why windows won and continues to win.
Telling companies you're going to throw a temper tantrum every 15 years and make the software they have unusable wont make people want to use your product
>>
>>109717753
>I bought a product in 2013 and it no longer works
I guess you gotta pay up, cuck. not my problem. maybe you can pay some trannies and furries to build a proper system emulator for your shit software (you won't because you're a piece of shit and goy).
>>

Realistically speaking, how much would tim Apple have made for every $1000 transaction?
>>

>It is and its why windows won
not really. I'm literally booting into a "Web version" of some exclusively "desktop (windows)" software right now because Windows is done. No one wants to play the game anymore. Even ignoring this, a lot of shit software using stuff like ActiveX, OLE, IE9, are DoA.
if your shitcode constructs and calls the COM object InterneteExplorer.Application, will it work? ya I guess. Will it be able to meaningfully render any modern fucking site, including Microsoft's own SharePoint product? lol, lmao, hahahahaha nigga.
>>
>>109717764
who's gonna make the sandbox? why hasn't M$ shimed InternetExplorer.Application to use Webview2 for software that literally will never be updated?
it's over.

Their products are getting better.
MacOS is getting better, and faster. (especially now when they remove x86 libraries after golden gate)

Not sure why someone must "win". If extremely long term stability is important to you, then a Windows Server OS is a good choice. Mac users are long accustomed to having compatibility broken when the OS moves forward. They're fine with that. It's part of the culture around Apple and they're open about it. Not everyone needs to have the same executable running for three decades. For those that do, Windows Server is the standard choice. Linux is also a possibility if you're willing to understand that ecosystem and are able to evaluate all of the billions of options for your needs.
Seems silly to insist on there being One OS to Rule Them All.

>Windows Server OS
not really. you guys always think backwards compat also means forward compat then cry when you're "b-but still supported!" Windows Server 2019 has a broke ass TLS stack that fails to handshake to nearly any service that doesn't serve whatever key exchange RSA (not PFS) cipher you want.

We're in a period where Windows objectively just does not work and these "legacy, always work" software gets constant updates and more modern libraries and shims because they realize this truth.

>>109717920
Uou can still start IE11 in Windows just fine and have all your faggy ActiveX trash full of CVEs, just fine. By the definition of Backward Compat retards, this counts as working.
>>

Good job outing yourself there.
It doesn't have a "TLS stack" at all. It has a certificate store - that's it.

>Uou can still start IE11 in Windows just fine
Nope.
>and have all your faggy ActiveX trash full of CVEs, just fine. By the definition of Backward Compat retards, this counts as working.
If IE11 did work, that would indeed be backward compat on windows' part. But it doesn't, so it doesn't.

Mac is dead for games now. Dropping Vulkan was the last nail, and now they are even dropping Rosetta.
Along with many older games no longer working, most devs refuse to update them to mac.
No Dwarf Fortress, he says Mac is no longer worth it, any sequels to games previously on mac, now no mac.
Dropping legacy shit only makes sense if you already have a large user base for the new shit. But they did not, so now gaming devs are gone, and Steam on Mac is bordering on maintenance mode.
