I want to play bloodborne (on pc) but its unplayable on mouse and keyboard. Im willing to buy a controller just because this only game but which to use, i have never ever held controller in my hands so this is going to be my first one, i expect absolutely shitty experience for a first few hours. What controller is better, from some research there are like 3 different layouts xbox, playstation and steam. steam looks like the most modern one using touchpads but people seem to shit on it for not having physical response to actions. Whats the difference? Also it needs to work on linux, are some controllers known to not being supported on gnooo slash linux? Any recommendations which one shall i buy.
>>109724571The layout depends on personal preferences, so you just have to figure out which one you prefer. Feature wise Sony controllers have more features. Both work on Linux.
>>109724571Dualshock 4 or Dualsense. Great controller, and you can use the touchpad to navigate desktop stuff as needed.
>>109724571xbox series controller
>>109724648sony controllers are shit
>>109724571Switch 2 or Switch 1 Pro controllers. I would pitch for the Steam Controller but the fucker is again out of stock/fucklong waiting list. And why do you want to play an emulated game on kb+m, using a controller is the original way to play bloodborne.
>>109724683both have shit pc support
gamesir g7 se is great value with two extra back buttons for convenience. i went through a lot of controllers years ago and thats what i ended up using. for fps games but still
>>109724675In what way? I haven't had any complaints about my DS4, and even my old DS2 still works great. My only real criticism is that they don't have hall sensor based sticks, so they'll eventually wear out and drift. I think 8bitdo has hall sensors in their latest "Pro" controller, but it doesn't have as many features as the last 2 generations of Playstation ones.
>>109724694>gamesaarworse then xbox btw
>>109724695>shit "dpad">bad stick placement>meme touchpad and gyro>no swappble battery
>>1097245718bitdo ultimate 2C>costs only $30>extremely high quality, it has TMR sticks and everything>no extra-buttons that would confuse you as a first-timer, it only has the essentials but in high quality>actually good wireless, no delay>20+ hours of battery life>100% PC game support
>>109724719>no swappable batteryewaste
>>109724719Forgot a picture but it comes in many different colorsthe C in "8bitdo ultimate 2C" stands for Color, and it's a more basic version than the 8bitdo ultimate 2 which has extra-buttons (that may confuse you) and which only comes in white or black.
>>109724707>shit "dpad"I've always preferred Nintendo's "+" style d-pads, but at least Sony's have the buttons connected together the same as Nintendo's, but just has the 4 directions exposed and not the center part. Either way, I'd much rather have that than the weird shield thing Microsoft did. >bad stick placementCorrect, symmetrical stick placement. >meme touchpad and gyroGyro needs to become more accepted. It makes for way more accurate aiming. Stick based aiming is unusable without the game auto aiming for you. >no swappble batteryFair. It does seem to last a long time though, and should be pretty easy to replace if you own a screwdriver.
>>109724728buy an add shill
>>109724727Been using mine for years and I still never manage to empty it.You do realise that any kind of battery degradation just means the capacity will be like 80% of what it was before?80% of ~ 22 hours is still ~ 18 hours. When do you ever play longer than that in a row?
>>109724685You mean windows? I wouldn't know what's going on there. I've been using my switch pro on linux for years now via steam and bottles.
>>109724648>Dualshock 4 or Dualsense.you can't go wrong with these ones. also you can consult this chart.
>>109724571I used to use an old Dual Shock 3 ps controller but seeing as it wasn't native to windows I had to mess around with DStoolkit to get it working. It eventually broke though.I then bought just a new xbox controller, that worked fine, but maybe a year or 2 later the controller has stick drift because its just shit quality so I won't be buying another one, even the premium models are suppose to be shit too.I'm planning to buy a steam controller next to try that and see if its any good.
>>109724571dualshock 3 is peak controller
What about flydigi Vader?
>>109724571Whatever you get, DO NOT GET AN XBOX ELITE CONTROLLERThe rubber grip comes off and the buttons get stuck. PS5 is a good controller, but apparently the 8bit chinkshit controllers are very good and priced at a reasonable price
>>109724667Too big. PSX controllers are there right size and sit right in the hand
>>109724946Handlets aren't people.
>>109724730Blah blah blah use case blah blah blah cuck license blah blah blahFuck off back to retarddit
>>109724860Are these proper USB devices, or do they just use it for charging? Dualshock 4 definitely is, I've plugged it into a Win98SE machine before since the only "retro" gamepad I have sucks ass. The DS4 registered as a standard USB gamepad and worked with Win98's built-in generic driver. The touchpad, gyro and rumble didn't work, but I just needed buttons and analog sticks, and it did that perfectly.
>>109724946>psx
>>109725043PSX was what the Sony devs creating the original Playstation called it. It was short for Playstation X, which was simplified to just Playstation before it went to market. "PS1" is the alternative, but only appeared after the PS2 came out. Many people use "PSX" for the original because "PS1" is too much like "PSone", which is picrel late model cost-cut one from after the PS2. And if you call the original "Playstation" like it's named, most people will assume you mean a PS4 or PS5.
>>109724694I also use this and it's good. Xbox shape and layout is best, gamesaar is same shape and layout but has better sticks and is cheaper if you can find a good deal
Do not buy any of the Nintendo, Sony, Xbox first party controllers, ever. They are all overpriced will all suffer from "stick drift" after a while that makes them effectively useless. Get something that CAN be used wired and that advertises "TMR sticks" or "HALL effect". Ignore:>>109724602>>109724648>>109724667>>109724683
>>109725122They don't wear out any quicker than the old 90s and 00s ones that used the same technology, do they? Potentiometer sticks just got a bad name after the Nintendo Joycon ones that wear out extra fast.
>>109725033thats funny actually, sony controllers use directinput so do not work in modern windows without drivers, work in linux fine and i guess very old windows versions but not the newer ones
>>109724571goodmorning Gamesir T3 Lite. For your usecase (playing 1 game per decade+) basically anything will do, but this one is cheap as SHIT yet genuinely good. It'd be a waste to consider anything more expensive.
>>109725159Wait, do they not work at all without the driver, even wired? I have the driver but I thought that was just to make it work wirelessly and use the gyro, touchpad, etc. Maybe Windows sees a directinput device and refuses to bind to the regular USB gamepad underneath it, while old Windows doesn't understand the directinput device but knows what a USB gamepad is so it uses that.
8bitdo ultimate8bitdo sn30gamesir g7steam controller (2026)nintendo game cube controller
>>109724571>>109725167Also there's literally no config software (everything is configured with button combos), and it has 3 or 4 modes disguising itself as first party controllers, so there won't be any compat issues.
>>109725175no directinput is an old directx api for controllers so it will work in win 98 but not modern windows because only xipnut works in modern windows
>>109725158They do, they all cheaped out and cut costs to the max
>>109725122i have no idea what you just said, what are first party controllers
>>109725122>They are all overpriced will all suffer from "stick drift" after a while that makes them effectively useless.xbox 360 and ps3 controllers dont drift, its weird how this problem just started with ps4/xbox one
who waiting for alpakka 2 here
>>109724860>>109724648Never listen to retards who recommend sony pads in 2026They are clearly clueless retards who have not tried anything else
>>109725197>only xipnut works in modern windowsEh? If I plug a basic USB gamepad like a PSX-to-USB converter into my Windows 10 PC, it just works, and if I run joycpl I get the same property sheet where I can see the numbered buttons, calibrate axes, etc., and if I use an emulator or game that supports it, I can map the buttons to actions.
>>109725219i have tried lots of controllers newer xbox, 8bitdo pro, flydigi apex 4, switch pro. none of them as good as the ds3
>>109725203In this context: Controllers made by Nintendo (primarily for Switch1/2, Microsoft (for Xbox) and Sony (for Playstation). They all work on PC and there would be less issues with them if these companies made them to last, but they don't. They are generally overly expensive and will experience "stick drift" (Google!) after sufficient use. When this happens varies, but for example the latest generations of Playstation controllers are notorious for degrading especially fast.
>>109725219Tell me what's better and why then. I absolutely have tried other things but they have mostly been inferior.
>>109725240>Eh? If I plug a basic USB gamepad like a PSX-to-USB converter into my Windows 10 PC, it just worksits either converting to xinput or there is some generic driver windows auto installs
>>109724571The 8bitdo controllers just work and they're relatively cheap, I own the Ultimate 2.4G model and I'll buy it again if it breaks, I've been using it for over 3 years and it's still like new (I'm careful with my controllers tho).>hall effect sticks>comes with a charging stand>has a XInput/DirectInput switch, which to me it works as PC/Phone switch>macro buttons, profiles (if you're into that)>>109725159what I also find funny is that the DS3 works wirelessly on OS X through bluetooth and without the need to install extra drivers (haven't tried it on recent versions of macOS, but it worked on Snow Leopard), and someone mentioned that it was because some of the DS3 devs also worked at apple and secretly added native support for it (I don't know legit that is tho)
>>109725255Yes it's a generic USB gamepad driver. It is not xinput, it doesn't map things to an Xbox controller, it supports arbitrary amounts of buttons and axes and doesn't necessarily know how they're physically arranges so you have to go to joycpl and see what numbers light up when you push the different buttons.
>>109725216yeahif only they didn't fuck up steam controller 2 so bad, the original's pad placement was way better
>>109725281oh you were making a point some other controller system/api works. well directinput doesnt, even back in win7 it didnt work not sure how longs its been unsupported
>>109724667> xbox series controllerThe 360 controllers were the goat - mine lasted for 10+ years -, but the current ones are crap. Will break after a couple of months.Currently using a 8bitdo ultimate and it’s fine.
>>>/v/
>>109725343no
>>109725279Only problem with 8bitdo is that they are made for baby and female hands.Gamesaar form is much better for adult male hands.8bitdo ultimate made my hands hurt after long mhwilds session
