even if coil whine isn't considered a defect by the crazy people we call normalfags, you should probably spend more on hardware with pro-level QC when you can (for example, Eizo if buying an LCD)
>>
>>109737475
I did that when I bought my AOC monitor 2 years back, RMA'd that shit because the coil whine or whatever it was, subtle as it is was bothering the hell out of me any time I turned my ear slightly. Even when I can't hear it, I can feel it.

most of my parts are ASUS but the high end ones and I barely ever had issues with them. Their software sucks kinda and I think for older boards you may need to disable the auto install of armory crate in the BIOS. If s/pdif is important check the codec and how it is connected. They are stingy with the warranty but I've heard the same about others at this point as well

I always get paranoid about not plugging in the cable all the way, it being pulled on, at a wrong angle, or something else for this reason. Especially if it's one of these flimsy looking cables. In my experience though it can happen to either type.

And I don't think it's coil whine from menu button LEDs either.
>>
>>109737520
>When selecting LCD panels as we develop our business monitors, we do not focus on providers; instead, we look only for the best quality. An LCD panel ends up in an EIZO monitor model only if it has passed a rigorous quality test. This is how we make sure that you end up working with the best image quality.
Back when I got my BenQ PD series, I always knew Eizo was the top of the spec for LCDs in any serious capacity. If I had unlimited budget as a student, I'd be getting their screens. Coil whine is fucking distracting and intolerable if you work in near silence. It is a fatiguing noise above all else. Much like having to RMA something you buy because it has that audible coil whine.

I honestly don't think the SDR local dimming is that bad to the point of being impractical or unusable, I'm sitting here in the dark with nothing but a cloudy, rainy night sky and it helps.

Still not OLED of course for accuracy in either this or HDR. You can't beat per pixel control. For consooming content it might be fine, but mastering HDR content would still demand an OLED imo.
>>
>>109737475
I think it's all a trick, they calibrate it and have the monitor automatically default to 60Hz out of the box so you don't notice the noise at first.

Even Asus removed pixel shift off feature
It's a sign of the end times
Monitors are abandonware overpriced stuff
Even tvs have more features that you can turn off now

Only way is to look at full osd breakdowns, read the full manual and buy and return it in cope
No one has time to test every single monitor and firmware and reviewers are lazy spec cucks that are awful

But it's all useless since tvs won anyway

It's over

The only saving tech for OLED monitors now that I remember is the new pixel refreshing tech that is auto adjusting in real time that will be on the new ijp oleds on the msi
If they have zero pixel refresh that requires turning off monitor and stop bouncing the screen around maybe monitors will be good for normal use

But they will still be worse and smaller than tvs and it will take like a decade before you get tv level hdr on OLED monitors or if at all
And you will have like 8k 10k nits OLED tvs by then Idk

It's all boring idk

Lads I built my pc back in late 2022:
CPU - Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU - Asrock 6750xt
RAM - 64gb corsair vengeance 6400
MB - Msi mag b650 tomahawk

I got a budget gpu at the time because I wanted to wait for a better gpu. Now I am debating upgrading to a Sapphire Nitro 9070xt.
Prices somehow jumped from $1200cad to $1425cad in a few days.
Does it make sense to upgrade right now? I mostly play games like cs2, kovaaks, deadlock and a few other titles.
>>
>>109738995
>I mostly play games like cs2, kovaaks, deadlock and a few other titles.
This is your codex. You need to find out how it's going for others, and also how low you can stand the settings to get good frames.
>>
>somehow, my igpu used 60w at some point

>>109739015
I play all of them at 1440p. I bought a new monitor in the spring. Had a gigabyte m27q and upgraded to a mag 272qp X50.
Fiddling with settings has never been my favorite thing to do in game, but I could likely eek out some more frames in doing so.
Looking at numbers it was like close to 80% more powerful than my 6750xt so percentage wise it seemed like a good idea.

I'm looking at it in Buildcores (Meshify 2 base, not Compact) and yes I see it now. Those structural ribs are quite low and force an AIO to sit further down than the theoretical roof of the case's shape. The builder incorrectly states 280s won't fit in the front but it definitely should according to Fractal's own site and specs sheet.

If you do go with a 280 in the front, consider making the entire top bracket an intake with the AIO and rear fan set to exhaust.

is 1060 3gb still cut it for something like Roblox, Web browsing and perhaps Minecraft?

grok:

Yes — for Roblox, web browsing, and Minecraft, a GTX 1060 3GB still cuts it in 2026, as long as expectations stay at 1080p and he isn’t chasing maxed shaders or the newest AAA titles.
It’s a 2016 card (1152 CUDA cores, 3GB GDDR5). Game Ready driver updates ended in late 2025; it only gets quarterly security patches now. That’s fine for these games. It will not be fine if he later wants Cyberpunk-looking Minecraft or Fortnite on high.
Web browsing
No issue. Even integrated graphics handle this.
Roblox
This is the easy win. Roblox’s official minimums are ancient (DirectX 10-class GPU). A 1060 3GB is well above that.
At 1080p you should see high/stable FPS in most experiences. Popular or heavier games (busy maps, Rivals-style shooters, detailed roleplay worlds) may need the in-game graphics slider around 5–8 instead of 10, but 60 FPS is very realistic. 3GB of VRAM is usually enough here.
Minecraft
This is where it gets conditional.

Bedrock / vanilla Java, Fancy, ~8–16 chunks, no heavy shaders: Yes. Comfortable 1080p 60 FPS with a decent CPU and 8GB+ RAM (16GB is better).
Optimized Java (Sodium / Iris / Fabulously Optimized): Even better. This is the setup you want.
Popular shader packs (BSL, Complementary, Sildur’s, etc.): 3GB VRAM gets tight. Expect lower render distance, lighter packs, or mid-30s to mid-50s FPS depending on the pack and world. That’s playable, not pretty-maxed.

Java Edition’s 2026 requirements now mention Vulkan 1.3 and 2GB VRAM as the new floor. Pascal (GTX 10-series) still has Vulkan support through existing drivers, and OpenGL remains a fallback, so it should still launch. Don’t expect Mojang to keep optimizing for this card forever.
Minecraft is also very CPU- and RAM-sensitive. A weak dual-core or 4GB of system RAM will feel worse than the 1060 itself.
>>
>>109741114

Should he use the existing 1060 or buy a GPU?
Use the 1060 if:

The rest of the leftover parts are okay (roughly 4+ cores from ~2015+, 8–16GB RAM, SSD, 400W+ PSU with a 6-pin).
The card is healthy (no artifacts, crash loops, or dying fan).
The goal is Roblox + browser + Minecraft, not “every new game on high.”

That’s a perfectly good first/nephew PC. Don’t spend money just because the GPU is old.
Buy something used only if:

He already wants shaders / high render distance / modest future-proofing.
The 1060 is flaky.
You can find a cheap step-up.

Better used targets (in rough order of “worth it”):

GTX 1660 Super / 1660 Ti
RX 580 8GB (more VRAM, similar raw power)
Used RTX 2060 / 3050 / RX 6600 if the price is actually low

Avoid paying much for another 3GB card. The 1060 3GB is already weaker than the 6GB version (~10% less compute and half the VRAM). Another 3GB card doesn’t fix the real limit.
Practical build notes

1080p monitor. Don’t pair this with 1440p.
16GB RAM if you can spare it (8GB works, 16GB is happier with Chrome + Roblox + Discord).
SSD is more important than a newer GPU for how the PC feels.
Install Sodium (or Fabulously Optimized) for Java Minecraft on day one.
In Roblox, set graphics to Manual and find the highest slider that stays smooth.

Bottom line: Keep the 1060 3GB for this use case. It’s free performance that still matches what a kid actually plays. Save the GPU money unless you already see a good used 6–8GB card for cheap, or you know he’ll outgrow Roblox/Minecraft quickly.

OLED is an obsolete technology which won't exist outside a few niche cases in 5 years. Micro led is everything oled is without the downsides like brightness limitations and burn in. LED tech will last forever while tech like plasma and oled are just stopgaps.

I get very concerned when im playing and my gpu goes to 85ºC or around, i understand that at that point my gpu is giving it all and thermal throttling to not go above it.
So i usually tone down settings and fps caps on riva until the card is working around 60ºC during gameplay
Picrel is my pc, hardly a beast and more a mid-low range old pc
Am i overthinking it? i do this on the hopes of extending the life of my gpu, assuming that if its reporting 85º its probably closer to 100º on the hotspots (or hotter)
I dont mind having to lower settings, im very much a gameplay first guy but i wonder if this actually benefits/protects the card at all
Thank you for reading and any input you might have.

Download HWinfo and unpeel your eyes. Not only will it report average die temp but it will also give you hotspot temp and tell you with a simple Yes/No if you are actually thermal throttling. Oh absolutely, yeah.
Like in non-gaming, workstation and AI stuff the 9070 XT is pretty weak.
If the 3080 leverages DLSS and FG in games that support it, you're probably going to see a better image and more frames than the 9070 XT will manage.

The 9070 XT is great if you wanna just run raster, but anything else it's really not so great. But, if you're looking to move to Linux, you're probably not that focused on gaming anyway, so productivity is likely more important, or you're going to be playing older games that the 3080 will max out for cheaper.

>>109745054
>from all my research DV seems like a overrated meme though
No. It's the technology that allows your TV to be used at its max potential because it uses dynamic metadata per scene to have accurate colors, brightness, black levels etc. Standard HDR10 is static metadata which uses the same values across every scene and as pointed out in HDTVtests latest video the HDR10 implementation in many blu rays have a capped brightness.
>>
>>109745100
>No.
Yes, the av cucks that jerk off this shit daily say qdoled is better than having DV

>HDR10 implementation in many blu rays have a capped brightness.
nobody gives a shit most mastered content is capped out at like 400 nits or whatever shit it is
Mediaslop content is trash

every LG circlejerker revolves around DV and find out it's fucking overrated
>>
>>109745134
Literally every HDR TV has DV support except samsung. Dynamic metadata is a genuine upgrade over HDR10 static metadata according to all the testing and visual comparisons. It's easily noticeable. Samsung have tried pushing their own alternative called HDR10+ but it has basically no support outside of some Amazon prime shows. If you're buying a TV you want it to have at least all the essential enthusiast features otherwise what's the point in spending 2k on a tv to watch shows at their most pristine quality, only to find out you can't because of a licensing disagreement.

They mentioned using it is a fixed cost, so 10ms frame time on 4k on a 5090, 10ms on 5060 on 1080p regardless of whats happening on the screen and so on.
Also that masking doesnt impact performance, as in you're always going to process the entire 4k amount of pixels if you want dlss 5 on a 4k monitor.

If all someone does is play games they don't need such an expensive display. If someone wants an expensive tv to have the best tech for gaming, streaming and watching live tv, there is no best oled. They all have their weaknesses like no dolby vision or no quantum dots or inferior processing. No dolby vision is a major reason to not pick a tv for many enthusiasts, or anyone who actually cares about using their tv to its max capability when watching shows/movies. Pretty much all Netflix and disney+ shows with HDR use dolby vision. Even if you're using an illegal app to watch shit, even they now stream rips with dolby vision so theres a net benefit to having it.

ideally how?
high ppi is great for making text look non shit and the likes but for games seeing detail and things in the distance higher ppi, for example 32" 4k 140ppi you are literally missing out detail because the pixels are too small at a desktop distance
this is my personal anecdotal opinion

>>
>>109746920
no you will need to extremely close to a 140ppi 4k monitor to see detail in games long distance
compare this to a larger display, it will be easier

much like on a smartphonme with 450-500 ppi you literally cant see the pixels now matter how hard you try they are simply too small, you cannot resolve that detail
now it looks good because its rendering graphics and text and shit, but its also not insane resolution which you need to see microscopic details

its very simple
>>
File: much detail.jpg (899 KB, 2255x1814)

>>109746953
the human eye can resolve details up to about 100 pixels per degree, which is ~40% more than a 4k 27" display at arms length
