I want to buy an OLED television, what brand do I go for? I figure you guys could help
>>
>>109744467
budget is around $1300, but can push it to $1500
>>
Sony before they become chinese

Perfect match.
>>
Only buy TVs with Android TV OS. So, not LG, and not Samsung. The panels in the same generation are almost identical.
>>
>>109744752
I don't plan to use the smart features, and I have no plans on ever giving it any kind of internet connection. It will be used with an HDMI cable from my pc
>>
>>109744927
Don't get a smart tv then. Many of them force you to take it online to setup. They'll keep switching the tv's wifi on even if you turn it off. There's been cases where a smart tv will brick itself if it's not allowed to phone home regularly.
>>
>>109745034
I don't think they sell dumb OLED tvs.
>>
>>109745034
Big if true, but no source provided. By chance does brick mean "gives an update warning on boot, but then works fine"?
>>
Sony Bravia 8 II if you are buying it for kinos or LG C6/G6 if you game.
>>
>>109745034
>>109745194
you can still update with a usb stick as far as I know
>>
>>109744732
>>109745202
looking at the price history of the Bravia 8 II, it seems to be in a whole different price class from the C5, like a whole thousand bucks more expensive than the C5 goes for during sales.

You get a glossy QD-OLED, best bet right now is the Samsung S85F or S90F.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s85f-oled
https://www.greentoe.com/buynow/Samsung_Samsung_S90F_65_4K_HDR_Smart_OLED_TV_QN65S90FAFXZA?direct_shop=a06PD00000GAbecYAD
The 2026 refresh models by Samsung (the S90H & S95H) both have a matte coating that really ruins lushness and contrast but it can be peeled off if you find a good deal on one.
>>
>>109745214
Do you want a TV, or do you want a toddlers TOY?
>>
Not exactly the same thing, what about monitors? Which one should I get? I spend 90% of my time gaming on my pc so there's little chance of burn in.
>>
>>109744752
I have the opposite stance. Avoid Android OS since you have zero plans to use it like a smart TV. I have an LG CX (2020) and while webOS is ass it does work offline without phoning home.
>>
>>109744467
You shouldn't buy OLED. You're going to see reflections, not perfect blacks.

It's not just LG btw, Smart TVs are like consoles in the sense that they're basically sold at a loss. But instead of them making money from you buying more games, they make money from selling your information to ad companies
>>
>>109747189
>>109747211
is a 4K monitor the only way out of this?

Because I don't think I would trust any smart tv at this rate, even if I use it with apple tv box through HDMI-CEC.
>>
>>109747211
I really do not get how this is supposed to work.
>Your Tv knows you have a soiphone14
>Sends data back
>it sends the ad for new soiphone 15
>You are compelled by an unstoppable force of magic to buy it
How does this master plan of Saturday morning cartoon villainy effect me, if i only buy things by reading reviews and watching people use the product on youtube?
Are they going to blackmail me?
Why would they run the risk of ruining their reputation and possably have to get in to legal trouble to force me to vote for their faggot in the general elections?
>>
>>109747211
how retarded do you need to be browsing /g/ and not going to your router settings to whitelist what ips your tv can access?
absolutely nigger behavior
>>
>>109747306
Yeah, that's an option. buy a monitor around the size you'd like or close to it and then setup either nvidia shield or apple TV on it
>>

negro time traveled from 2017

What impresses me the most is that the microphone (which works even when the TV is shut down) is sensitive enough to pick up conversations on the other side of a building. That's some real 1984 shit right there. LG, bringing Telescreens to every home.
>>
>>109747689
yeah, wild shit though I am sure this has been going on for years prior to this video dropping, maybe less prevalent and needed a direct adversary but now, it's just werks lol. Guess I'll sticking to 4k monitors until those start getting this unnecessary shit too.
>>
Why does tv need a microphone??
>>
>>109747728

Well, how else is it going to spy on you?
>>
>>109744752
Smart TV feature sucks not because I hate ads and spywares, but because it's SLOW.
Get a good TV box. NVIDIA shield is the gold standard.

one that doesn't flicker or burn-in, o wait they all do.

If you buy a "smart" TV, the first thing you do after taking it out of the box, is get the back cover off, source the Wifi and any other wireless antennae, and remove them. There might be a separate module. If not, cutting traces on the PCB and removing a section of the trace that makes up the antennae works perfectly. Reassemble. Congratulations, you just cost the manufacturer thousands of dollars by never allowing them to recoup the cash they'd make from advertising. Also, you removed a wiretapping device.
If this bricks the TV, take it back and find another one that you can disable until you get one that works.

Wiretapping is illegal as fuck BTW.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiretapping#United_States
So never feel like you are in any way in the wrong for disabling any method used to wiretap your house.
>>
>>109748544
This will 100% break smart TVs and you won't get refunded because you opened it. Good luck making your case to the seller when sending an opened TV back because you broke it
>>
>>109748560
>This will 100% break smart TVs
Depends. Some TVs are fine. Believe it or not there are people without internet. What are they supposed to do?
>and you won't get refunded because you opened it.
How is Walmart/Costco going to know you opened up your TV and cut the antennae? You bring it back basically brand new and say the shit doesn't work and you want another brand. Boom, problem solved.
>>
>>109747189
>t=3s
gee, thanks
>>
>>109748578
>Some TVs are fine
Which TV with an OLED panel is "fine" in that regard? It's all smart TVs and even without internet they keep recording.
>>
>>109748592
They can record all they want. The problem is the data leaving your possession. As long as you ensure the TV cannot talk to anything outside of your house because the there's no antennae to send/receive and you don't have it connected via hardline, it can't wiretap you. You're essentially making a physical firewall that disables communications with anything except the remote, and if you lose remote function(probable) you just use a keyboard instead, no problem.

I'm speaking from experience here BTW, I've done these steps to multiple Samsungs and a Sony for acquaintances.
Again, WIRETAPPING IS ILLEGAL. Federally. You are in no way wrong for disabling anything that can wiretap you. You might also break the law in doing so, but breaking the law is not wrong in itself when preventing wiretapping.

It's not our fault these companies act the way they do, it's the shareholders fault, and they're being wiretapped without even knowing it. Dumbasses. Imagine the insider trading you could pull off by hacking one of these things in a boardroom.
>>
>put my TV inside one of these
Checkmate, LG

>>109748729
>Faraday cage
As a random thought, what's the viability/desirability of making your house a full cage? Is it even possible?
>>
>>109747211
it's a boomer viewer
a screen dedicated to showing ads
>>
>>109747337
why are you so obsessed with niggers, anon?
>>
>>109748026

>>
>>109748544

>>
>>109748645
>again, illegal
kek he really and truly doesn't know
>>

>>109749253
I know. You missed the overall point.
>>
>>109749265
the overall point is very much not missed, I get and you make a very good one
>>
>>109749273
As long as everyone ITT knows that LG and other companies are breaking US law via wiretapping, it's all good. Because that means you can break the law fucking them in their assholes by buying one of their TVs at below cost(they're lose money on every one sold until ad rev and data sales recoup) and killing the ability of the TV to talk. That way you're taking $$$ out of the manufacturer's pocket.
Fuck these bitches. Trinitron image still looks better than OLED. We won't argue about that though.
>>
>>109749320
Would putting it on a VLAN with a dead sink for the APIs it calls work instead of the physical damage?
>>
>>109749337
I don't know. My network engineering is nowhere near good enough to give you that information, so I refuse to pretend otherwise. What I know for a fact is, no antenna, no phoning home. It's pretty simple. I pulled the OnStar module out of my mom's Impala. I just ripped it the fucker out. Also cut the mic in the cabin for good measure.
>>
>>109749351
Cars can fuck right off because they put cellular modems in them.

I don't know if they can still be configured with no external connections but Sony seems to have a robust software stack for their professional monitors.

Just don't get an LG or WOLED, they are all shit currently
>pwm checkerboard dithering on near blacks, so your tv becomes 1080p pwmshit from 2006 if it tries to display sub 1 nit subpixels which is a significant portion of the srgb and dcip3 color space
>edges and corners dimmed because of forced vignetting for "power saving"
>forced sharpening for "mictoconstrast enhancement"
>records everything you say and watch, probes your network and sends it to lg's ad tracking servers
>starts delaminating in 2 to 5 years, in bad cases it becomes over 1 pixel dying per day, others it's slow but eventually starts being visible even from far away
Just don't buy LG or WOLED anything, they used to be the goat but now all they are is the laughing stock of QD-OLED users
>>109744752
Google tv TVs all use mediatek chips that give you less hdmi 2.1 ports and have far worse input lag and settings built to be toddler friendly
>>
>>109750216
That's a very retarded answer, by leaving passwords to other people you're letting these people act as you online and by leaving doors open you're allowing people to steal things from you in such a way that the thing they've stolen is no longer in your possession and you can't use it anymore. None of that happens with corporate telemetry.
>>
>>109750719
>mention password, security number, any secret around an "smart device"
>gets logged into their database
>dataleak of the week happens
>massive hacks happen
>all your shit gets stolen compromised
>all your non protected devices now join the corporate botnet.
>electric bill goes up.
>your internet lags because the massive influx or botnet connections.
>all your devices now work as VPN for jeet scammers
>your tv is used to mine crypto 24/7
>all your cameras at home stream your kids to troons
>telemetry gives them access to real-time geolocation.
>all your devices are now used as illegal content hosting.
>see you in jail.
>>
>>109750769
>>mention password, security number, any secret around an "smart device"
you don't have to mention anything
>log into something
>"did i put the password in right?"
>reveal the password

>>109750719
lmao what is this corporate babble, fuck off nigger

Look for one with a hospitality mode to disable the spycancer. Otherwise don't ever connect it to the Internet and unplug the Wi-Fi module, microphone and camera.

burn in is a meme by retards who like raping their eyes just run an oled at like 70% brightness and it will never happen. the problem is most people always run their screens at max. i dont get how people do it
>>
At this point of my life. I don't think poor people should own anything. Yes you spend money on a TV. Yes you spend money on a car. Yes you spend money on a house. But no sorry, just because you purchase these things doesn't mean you get to own them. You are poor in the literal sense. You had no capacity to actually create any of these things you "purchased". If you were halfway intelligent you'd be able to make these things for yourselves. But you can't. So in the real world. You shouldn't be considered to be the owner of any it. You are paying for access to someone elses' product. LG really isn't doing anything wrong. The just better understand society and the economy than most people.
>>
>>109751416
You paid for access to their television. You didn't pay to be the owner of the television. So why do you think you have any right to modify it or dictate how it functions? Like literally. Why do you think you get to choose to do with it?
>>
>>109744467
Look for an older second hand model ''Dumb'' TV. ''Smart'' TVs are cancer.

>>
>>109751460
This isn't an answer to my question. Wealthier people have earned the right to own your television. You are a poorer than them. You should have no right to ownership because of this.
