LG TVs record, store, and transcribe all your conversations and upload them in plain text - including ambient conversations. They also found where the microphone was software disabled via settings, it was STILL recording things but had the dB level so low that it looked like nothing but when amplified to +50dB later the conversations were actually still there.

The TVs also do this while powered off, or even with the microphone disabled via software or hardware as there are multiple other secret microphones embedded.

Even if you don't agree to a single EULA when setting up the TV, it will still record and store this data.

It will make profiles of every device on your network, to the point where it will note what windows programs you have open based on network traffic analysis.

vlans and subnets aren't usually a part of most consumer grade routers' playbook. if your router has a way to create a guest network, that's probably your simplest and easiest way to isolate some devices. guest networks are just normal wifi networks but with different firewall flow rules. as for learning about this stuff, i learned through openwrt. you'll need an openwrt capable router and to be able t oflash it, though. but openwrt has multiple dns level adblocking packages you an install, that are relatively easy to configure. client isolation per ssid (wifi) is also a one button thing, very handy

this is imho far preferable to the western system, in which we have profiteering companies that abuse and directly profit off data, and then even our government pays for the data to get around legal loopholes... they buy it with our taxdollars....

so not only does, say, the US government have our data, but they also spend out taxdollars on our data, and then corporations also have our data and profit off it....

The most surprising thing to me is that people are surprised by this. This was scary 20 years ago and is the norm now. The domain list the thing pings is roughly at the 20 minute mark in the video. I have a complicated setup on my routers and don't really feel like fucking around with them right now to get ssh working on the adblocking one. I took a look at the Hegazi pro++ list on github and it alone seems to block like 70-80% of the domains the TV tries to reach. This is an unsurprising interaction.
