I pretty much went directly from windows 98 to windows xp. Never had a pc that could fit windows 2000.

I briefly ran 10 on it after 8.1 EOL'd, but then the machine blew its motherboard.So in came a new machine - with Windows 11.

I'm kind of in the middle between you and the LARPers I also appreciate old 90s GUIs a lot too. I like lots of little windows that fit the content, many little terminals too. Some 2004 Windows was only for games. I ditched W10 about a year before EOL and went Linux only. Then I went back to school and needed W11 for CAD software. I put Windows on its own SSD so I can just take it out. I might be nuking it soon because it's trying to make me set up a Microsoft account again.
