I think it's honestly more importent that Open AI get the win than some other run of the mill mathematician doing what mathematicians do. We're at the cusp of the singularity, regardless if AI solved it or plagiarized we kind of need to believe that AI can do it, because even if it can't today, in time it will, and that will benefit us all, not just one smart guy who had a breakthrough.
