why do western imageboards have a native catalog feature in the first place if it has brought only suffering and stagnation

western software development is more advanced. mine even has search.
>>
Glad I wasn't here when catalog wasn't around sounds like hell being funneled only into the most popular and cancerous threads on the board
And Thank God for sort by creation date

Sorry I'm not forced to scroll past dalle general and ai generals 2-22 in page mode everytime I visit, surey this is the bane of the site

Back then we just used third party sites like greenoval for the catty. It was basically like the 4chan catalog except not on 4chan.

Aesthetically pleasing (unlike .jp sites)

what features are missing from all chan sites?

convenience is a one-way ratchet so we just deal with the second order negative effects of removing friction from systems.

all the number of generals says is how crammed the board topic is
this is *one* board about "all technology (except /p/haggots)"
anyway, I'm not sure what forcing everyone to use index would do; I'm not sure I care about technology opinions of "people" with mechanical keyboard collections or chink iems

Im so burnt out on millennial "culture"

People will interact with your thread if you make it more interesting. Hope this helps!

i think if indexes were the de-facto way of browsing, the 22 ai generals wouldn't exist at all actually
>>109763838
oh i didnt know this was basedcial media. i understan now.. heres the OP in a more... digestible format:
>catalogsisters... this snailcatty indextranny obsessed schizo thinks their babyduky obsolete way of browsin 4chins is more le kultur oh algorithm.. how do we respond???????

Jesus. Cyberix larpers, stop changing your site design every week as a proxy for interestingness. What happened to stealing /g/ threads anyway?

The fact this thread (which is not a general) has replies due to people finding it in the catalog proves that you are bitching about absolutely nothing.

meow meow you reap what you sow. you have no idea what is being spoken of here...
>>
>>109763591
Yah, site is basically missing a dimension and generals function as subboards, but collapsed to a single thread, semi-equivalent to the no catalog lifestyle except for all discussion being mangled by the baking cycle.
Could have subboards and their threads percolate up to the main one, for discoverability so niche ones aren't just weird silos with decade old posts, and also for filtering so you can just not see /g/ai/ or whatever.
walla, everything fixed, indexes usable, peace on earth.

2chan has a catalog, and on 5ch there's a thread list at the top, piss off with your retardation. We have like 392 more significant problems.
>>
>>109762988
Savvy oldfags used to use a third-party catalog site because it was just so damn convenient compared to browsing at ground-level like a caveman. There is truth to what the pic says, but I still wouldn't go back voluntarily.
>>
image-board culture, despite protests, overwhelmingly converges towards "generals".
But you could also argue that catalogs help way more threads have a chance. Because much like search engines, most users never went past page 0
>>
>>109767341
generals are a reddit phenomenon though mostly upheld by schizos by reddit rejects
>>
>>109767341
>most users never went past page 0
if the catalog never existed and was instead index infinite scrolling, it'd probably have a better impact on the site's culture and simultaneously be future-proofed for the zoomies and alphas beyond
>>
>>109767502
>be future-proofed for the zoomies and alphas beyond
Fuck those retards, let it burn
>>
>>109767358
>generals are a reddit phenomenon though
not really, you had quasi-ones on pretty much every board 17+ years ago, especially for big events.
/sp/ and /jp/ were natural general boards before the concept became contentious
